Has anyone experianced problems with the little overhead computer and the way it computes mileage? Recent trip of 996 miles the computer says 23 miles per gallon. Yet i used 56 gallons of fuel so the math (18 mpg) doesnt support the mileage. Does an EZ install or DTT transmission effect this thing.

Mine does the same thing. I hauled a load of hay home last week and the computer said 18 mpg. DTT transmission and DDII injectors were installed same day. Computed to 13. 5. Not bad for 10,000 lbs of hay??????

Computer

As I understand it, the computer uses input from the fuel gauge and the throttle position sensor (aka APPS) to compute fuel mileage, anything that results in the engine running at a different speed than the original set up for a specific throttle position will result in a change in the computation of fuel mileage. bg

What is happening is, the modifications you guys made specifically to fuel timing and manifold pressures has created a smoke and mirrors effect within the cummins computer programming opf your trucks.

This in turn causes your truck to "think" it is consuming say 18 MPG when in actuality due to fuel timing adjustments and increased manifold pressure, which the travelers computer doesn't "see", you are only getting 15 MPG. These figures are totally random and only being used as an example.

The benefit of computer chips for more power are just what they say. However, you need to work your fuel economy out by hand now.

Personally, only use it for compass, weather, and tank level. However, miles to empty tank has been changed now too!!!!
