Don't know if you guys that are getting different numbers form the overhead verses hand calculation are taking this into consideration.

The overhead computer resets every time you shut the truck off.

So to keep the numbers right you would need to write the final MPG numbers down before you shut off the truck.

If you ran her say 15 shut downs on a tank you would need to add up the average miles of each trip and divide by 15 for average overhead miles for that tank.

If you do a lot of freeway miles during the week and hall butt down to the station on Saturday and fill her up you overhead will be way under your average because it just gave an average from your house to the station.

If you take a long trip and run the whole tank out with out shutting it off, you might find the overhead is closer to your hand calculations.

Not sure exactly sure what your overhead does, but like Tim said it does not reset until I push the reset button. My overhead mpg has never been very close to actual had calculated. Now with the Juice/EZ it is about 2 mpg higher than actual. The variation is pretty much the same, so that is good.

I reset my overhead with every fillup. Since my overhead is constent in the way it calculates, I just use it as quick reference as to how everything is running. If I see it saying 12mpg while I am on the highway instead of the normal 18-19mpg, I would know to check for something wrong.

It is no big thing, I do not rely on it for any real mileage numbers.

Who gave yo the idae that your overhead reset with every shut down? I think someone is pulling your chain. I just did a 2500 mile trip and I always had to reset mine. I think you need to question your dealer about this. I highly doubt this is correct info.

Mine doesn't reset either. It runs 1. 5 to 2 mpg low. I understand there is a reflash to correct this, but I'm getting 18. 3 -18. 8 with mine, and it doesn't have 7,000 miles on it yet.

Ok so when you run your truck and you come home check your overhead and make note of the average miles per gallon. When you start your truck again the overhead will say 0. 00, it reset itself when you turned it off.

When I start mine it is the same as when I shut it down. Your truck has a problem or your steering wheel actuator is doing something wrong.

Humm I upgraded my overhead with a unit I got off Ebay with the homelink. Everything pluged in fine this is the first I've seen of it not being compatible maybe something needs to be changed through the OB port.

52000 miles and the computer is within . 5 mpg of pencil figures. My computer only cycles when the reset button is pushed.

Overheads lie

After 50,000 miles, my overhead mpg reads 22. 8. I don't know what it's trying to tell me but it lies, always has. These posts provide the answer: the overhead is unreliable and should not be depended on. However, the DTE and outside air temperature are correct. Give thanks for something that works right up there.

My overhead MPG is very close to hand calculated if I reset it when I fill up and go on a long enough trip to fill up again. I have found that if I just leave it and don't reset it, after several tanks it will read about 1 MPG less than I calculate. Since it's a rolling average on the '05 I guess it's just slightly off and the difference gets bigger the longer I let it go without a reset.

MPGs

That's kinda my point. Your overhead reads one MPG less if you leave it alone, mine reads one MPG more if I leave mine alone. Others say it's right on the money or a few tenths one side or the other. Bottom line is, the overhead is non-dependable. It's fluff and can't be depended upon.

Probably, DC stuck it up there to compete with (hopefully more dependable) overheads in other trucks.

Its a average. It works as designed. I and my friends that have them find no problem in how it operates. Mine and theirs are always withen tenths or . 5 of hand.

Before the Juice went in mine was one of the accurate ones. I knew the Juice was going to throw it off some, but wow. It's been reading 15. x for a couple months and the actual mileage is less than 11mpg--all heavy towing. If I reset it for an empty drive with friends I don't bother telling them it's off.
