I have a 07.5 2500 MC 4x4. Last few days, I've been having a minor issue I can't seem to pinpoint. When the overhead display chimes and reads "Service Needed", I immediately checked for any trouble codes with my Edge Insight monitor. It shows everything clear. I reset the message on the overhead with the key on and the accelerator pedal trick. A few days later it shows up again. When I scroll through the overhead, it goes away and reads "System OK". But then 5 or 10 minutes later it shows up again and disappears. Is this possibly a loose ground issue somewhere? I just purchased truck in June and by my naked eye it appears stock. I appreciate any input.

Well since my 04 doesn't have that option it must never need service LOL.
Seriously, that's kinda stupid. No different than a check engine light.
Do you have the manual?

No sir I don't. I need to order one. I kinda prefer the book version, but for the 2007, it's 12 books to the tune of $650ish. While I'm sure it's worth every penny, I can't justify that. I need to just order the CD version. Don't know why I haven't done it yet.
I also noticed when the key is in the "on" position, the CEL will blink 10 times. Not sure if that means anything or not.

I found the whole manual for my 04 online. Just downloaded it.

I thought that as well. I changed it and cleaned the EGR about 3 weeks ago (prior to any overhead notifications). Is there a different procedure for resetting it? I ordered the FSM CD earlier today. Should have it by this weekend. I'll see what it says.

I tried the reset method posted above multiple times on the way home yesterday (had a few stops to make) and on the way to work this morning. Still comes on every now and then. I also did a trans service the same day I did the EGR cleaning and the CCV filter change. I may end up having to take it somewhere and let someone plug into it and see what it's looking for specifically, since the Edge monitor won't tell me. But I'll wait till I get my digital copy of the FSM and do some reading first.

Time for an update. After reading through the FSM, I was still left with my overhead reading "Service Required, See Dealer Now" as a timer for CCV and EGR service. After multiple attempts to reset it with no luck, I took it to a local trusted diesel shop to check and see if something else may be the issue. Some early suspicions I had about this truck have been confirmed, it has been tuned. Owner of the shop said that whatever tune is on there won't allow him to reset it via his scan tool. We discussed some options for putting a factory tune back on it. For now I'm going to keep plugging along with it and keep up with the maintenance schedule based on what I've done since I bought it. I really like this truck, and I'm glad to hear that there isn't some other underlying issue that is causing the overhead alert.

Is there a chance that since your truck has had some reprogramming, that the Edge is competing with it, causing the faulty codes? Other than the thrown code, is there anything wrong with the engine? Running fine? EGR not plugging things up??
Speaking with a co-worker, who modified his truck, many years ago. His programmer shut off the valve that ran the exhaust back into the engine. Is you Cat and DPF still in place, not gutted out??
If all mechanics say it runs fine, and no damage is done to the engine, leave it.

Everything is still working properly and running fine. The EGR is still intact and operating as it should. The DPF has been removed. The cat is still in place, but I can't speak for if it's been hollowed out or not. I haven't tried resetting it with the Edge monitor unplugged. But the mechanic I took it to unplugged it to plug in his scan tool and he said that whatever program that has been put in it won't allow him to reset it. For now I can tolerate the double chime every 15 minutes or so until I get ready to have it worked on.

Another update: When I left for work this morning, I noticed the overhead display did not immediately go to "Service Needed". I can only assume that it has a time frame (select mileage) that it displays that message if you don't get it reset. Thanks again for they replies fellas.

it's a maintenance minder i believe.
1: turn key on, no starting,
2: press and release brake pedal 2 times,
3: fully depress gas pedal slowly 2 times withing 10 seconds.
4: turn key off
