I'm about to tear my overhead message screen out. It beeps every few minutes and says service needed see dealer now. I have no mil or codes checked through my mini-max or key cycle. The message started on Wednesday when I took my wife to the hospital to have our baby. So it has not been a top priority. It's just getting annoying. Truck runs fine no issues. Also I have 122000 miles on the truck. Oil was just changed on the 6th of December. I have had the deletes done for 6 months or so.

Did you clear the oil change alert? I just had an oil change message come up at 101500 and I haven't cleared it yet either.

Yeah the oil change deal came on after I did the oil change. I did reset it but the see dealer now still comes on.

Did you try to reset it again? The O&M guide states you may need to do this more than once. Another idea is you may need to change the CCV filter and reset the OHD as instructed in the O&M guide also. This should be done every 67,000 miles or so.

here is how to reset the message

turn key to on do not start

press brake peddle 2 times

press gas peddle 2 times slowly within 10 seconds

turn off key

this did it for me

Turned 68,000 miles yesterday and the overhead is saying SERVICE NEEDED.

And the oil change light came on 3500 miles after I changed the oil. So I ignored the light and it came back on and I still have 2000 miles to go until I get to the 7500 mile interval. Would a bypass filter help keep the soot out of the oil?

I think if we could rid these 6. 7s of all this Environmental Persecution Devices, they would be a great engine!

What is the CCV thing that has to be done at 67,000 miles??????????

The filter under the valve cover should be changed and the EGR cleaned at 67k on pickups, something like 70 or 75k on C&C trucks.

I had a former dealer tech do mine. The EGR was almost clean as new but the service was performed and will be done again at around 150k miles.

Thanx Uncle Harvey,

Is the service hard to do or does it require a trained service specialist? Does Geno's sell the filter?

If I took it to a dealer, what does the service cost?

Someone here mentioned dropping about a thousand bucks on a surprise 67. 5k mile service.

Genos does sell the filter. The filter itself is easy to replace - remove the oil filler cap and about a dozen 8mm bolts and pop the plastic cover off the valve cover and there it is.

If you deleted your EGR, you don't have to worry about the rest of the service.

My local dealer parts department looked at me like I was speaking Farsi when I asked for the CCV filter, and they said they'd never sold one before. Odd, considering the volume they do, but oh well.

Thanx Cosmo,

Ok, I can do the filter but I still have the EGR... ... ... ..... and intend to keep it until the truck is out of warranty. At that time, and based on the the information I am collecting, I will make the decision what to do with all this Eco Persecution Fecal Material on the engine.

I guess my other question is how hard is the EGR system to clean or service?

Barry,

I can't tell you what a dealer would charge but would guess 1 to 2 hours labor. It would not be hard for someone with basic tools, skills, and a service manual.

Cleaning the EGR was a topic here a few months back, do a search, it had diagrams and the basic info, also Geno's Garage sells everything you will need, and I would think there is an instruction sheet. When I reviewed the procedure, in my mind it looked like a 3 hour job.

I reinstalled the EGR system on my truck (for sale) and it was a pain just doing that. Lots of bolts. Cleaning the cooler and the multiple valve assemblies probably would take a few hours, then you have to top off the coolant you spill.

It would be well worth the $30/hr I pay at my local dealership, that much I'll say. :)
