i've had a couple of requests for pics of my overhead switch panel. Here is a pic.

The three black rocker switches are mounted where the factory computer would be. One powers the high idle, one powers the wig wags on the fog lights and the third is unused at this point. The two led's on the Left are super bright blues and powered by the grid heaters. the three on the right are green leds and powerd by each of the three swithes respectively.

Between the dome lights are the switches that control my whelen strobes. Toggles turn the strobes on and off, while the black pushbutton controls the intensity of the strobes for night use and the red push button controls the strobe flash pattern.

Mongoose, now that you showed us the cool switches, I'm dying to see a pic of your truck at nite with everything on. :--)

how did you run the wires?

i have been wanting to do the same thing to mine, but have no idea how to run the wireing without tearing the headliner out.

I second this!:--) Oo. Oo. Oo.

sorry to take so long to reply, but here goes. I'll try to get a couple of pics or video's this weekend. As far as the wig wags on the fog lights, I use them in conjunction with the strobes while responding to the Station that i volunteer with. On the wiring, i used a multi-conductor cable similar to what would be used in home alarm or fire alarm systems. each switch triggers a relay so i could keep the wire small and compact. As far as the high idle, I don't have a premade setup. I took a selonoid from an old Chevy quadrajet carb and made a bracket to mount it under the hood of the dodge. When 12v is applied to the selonoid, it holds the throttle open. I have heard some say that with a set up similar to mine that they can't build heat in the motor. Mine is used during the winter in conjunction with the block heater. after about 3 minutes of run time the temp guage has already risen above 140 with the high idle on.

I just want to thank mongoose for the help he has previously given me. I really appreciate the help. I am soon to have overhead switches!! Just got to find the time now. :)

Thanks!!

I used Digikey for mine. These are the same that i recommended to jhurst.

Digikey Switch page

Look at the bottom of page 842. I used the Curvette Rocker switches in a SPST style. The switch i used has no markings on the switch itself. They do have styles that have on and off marked on the switch itself though. mine were a little over $1 each. If you go to digikey's website, you can ge LED's and everything at one stop shoping. I"m not affiliated with Digikey in any way.

It took me a lot of looking through catologs and websites to find just the look i wanted as well as the size.

I've not forgotten the night pics, will try to get them this evening.

Jhurst, you are quite welcome for the help. If you need anything else, let me know. i'll help all that i can.

Switches and lights look great up there but I am interested in what type of LEDs you used and where you found them. Are they 12v and what size did you use?

:)

I used T 1 3/4 LED's in mine. The Blues that i used for the grid heaters are verry verry bright. both of them on at one time will light up the entire cab area on my quad cab truck. The green's are not near as bright though. The T 1 3/4 size works out to about 5mm if i remember correctly. The ones i used were 3 volt LED's and i added a resistor so they would work with the 14 volt system of our truck with the truck running.

does anyone know where i can host an MPEG file of the strobes on my truck?

you touched on this subject a few posts ago, but if you could give more details i would appriciate it. how did u get the wires up there to the overhead panel. i was going to do the same, and use so flat ribbon cable or something of the type to run relays with, but getting the wires up there seems a difficult task?

I used a multi-conductor cable just a little larger than regular phone wire. I basically did a lot of tucking and pushing to get the cable up the apillar. I had the driver side apillar off to install guages so i ran my wire up that side. then at the front of the headliner i tucked the wire under the frontside lip of the headliner. Then with the overhead console out i pulled the wire thru the hole in the headliner behind the console. With the driver side apillar out there should be plenty of room to get the cable up from under the dash to the apillar. If you need anymore help, let me know. :D

How did you remove the overhead console. I want to install a switch in the square space between the overhad lights. I tryed to pry the square it out but it seemed like it was all conected.

Thanks

BigDan

I did not find a way to remove just the small square between the lights. I had to remove the entire console. If i remember correctly, there are two small tabs inside the sunglass holder that require squeezing together. The the console will slide one direction or the other, forward or back and it will drop off its mounts. The more i think about it, it slides forward to drop off. If you have a service manual, it shows how in it. If you do not, give me a couple of days and i'll scan you some pages from mine.
