Overhead temperature display

This morning it was 32 degrees when I shut my truck off when I got to work, at about 11am I got back in it and it was probably about 50 degrees out and the display said 32 degrees. It stayed there for my entire trip (about 5miles) and then when I got back in the truck at 3pm, it still said 32 degrees, and the temperature was probably 60 at that time. Anybody ever had this problem? Im kind of hestitant to take it into the dealer telling them it does not work right, think they would replace it if I did? Many thanks.

Same problem, I think the refresh rate is slow on the thermometer it seems to take driving down the road a bit to give real temp. I thinks it's normal.

I have an 02 and find that the truck needs to be running for about 10 mins to get accurate readings. I also find that running the truck and parking for a little while say an hour, then getting back in causes weird readings again for 10mins or so. however if the truck has been turned off over night I am usually close when I start it up in the mornings

Yes, my thermo is on crack, too. I shut it off after work at ~80deg and when I went to my friend's house that night at ~58deg, the thermo still said 80... all the way to his house AND all the way home! Of course he's only 2 miles away. If I keep it on longer it will eventually keep up, but yeah, that makes it just short of useless!

The manual says that you need to be going over 40mph before it really resets.

Mine takes a while also.



The only thing I liked about my Furd, was the temp gauge. It gave out instant readings. Why does Dodge not do this?

I have had three trucks with the overhead temp and all have been great, never had that problem with any of them.

No problems here, but I have to drive a couple of blocks before it starts reading a correct temp.

Im guessing that they delay the readings so that you dont get false underhood temps.

My 97 was dead nuts on all the time, unless it was sitting in 100+ temperatures. Its frustrating because I thought it was broken, oh well.

As mentioned, I believe its speed sensitive so as not to register under hood temps on start up. My wifes 92 Caravan had "instant" refresh but would read temps radiated from the engine, I think a better compromise would be to cut the speed refresh to 20 mph.
