Curious to see if Mike got his heating problem fixed. . (I see that was a few months ago. ) I have a hard time believing it was the fan clutch, because it was heating up that quickly while he starts driving... I've been watching my temps closely. . and my have started creaping up while I'm driving. . stopped they settle back down... Stated above. . I believe I just have oil in my Rad from the soon to be move blow bottle...

SC. . If you are watching the boost flutter. . and its not the gauge acting up... and you are seeing lower boost pressures... higher EGT's... check you air filter. . and you turbo... see if the blades have hit the housing... When they hit, they don't get enough air. . U usually see a little smoke, higher EGT's. .

Good Luck

Mike760,

I notice your truck has an automatic transmission. If you're pulling a heavy load up a long grade with the torque converter unlocked, fluid shear is adding a tremendous heat load to the coolant.

Last month mine was running on the warm side while towing trailer with Jeep on it. Threw the blow by bottle out and extended hose down. Then checked the back of radiator looked a little dirty, cleaned it off. Next day looked at front of radiator and it was caked with soot that made bugs and all kinds of nasty stuff stick to it. Degreased it and pressure washed it all off. Runs cooler now. May want to check it out.

mine did the same thing i had to pull the radiator out and clean it. on my truck there was a 1/8 inch of crud built up on the fan side of the radiator and the spaces between the fins were plugged. a few cans of gunk and break clean and a quarter car was and no more problems

Like I said, I replaced the stat. I also don't think it is the oil because the minute I got it back after replacing everything including the fan clutch, I hitched my gooseneck and took it up the mountain and it immediately started heating up and overheated by the time I got to the top. And this was with an empty trailer. I never heard a roaring sound when it started getting hot.
If the radiator is clogged the heat never transferes to the air cause it has no air flow therefore it never heats up the fan clutch so it never turns on.
