What is the best way to locate a hotel/motel with room for trailer parking and convenient to on-off ramps?

I've got "The Next Exit" and am using it to see potential locations. Unfortunately it does not say if any of the hotels/motels have trailer parking. I'll be pulling our 34' gooseneck back and forth across I-40, Tennessee-Nevada.

Other than calling all the potential stop locations, is there a way to see if there are parking facilities?

Thanks!

When you call, be specific when you ask about truck/trailer parking. I went to a Motel 6 on the east side of Columbus this fall. I called to confirm they had big truck parking. She assured me in what ever dialect she was speaking in that yes they most certainly did. On arrival, I had to weave back 2-3 really tight turns to end up in a motel parking lot with no outlet. I was pulling a 37' GN car hauler. I was NOT happy. I went in to find out where the truck parking was only to be told that I could pull it off on the side of the street in front of the hotel. She couldn't understand why I was soooo incredibly pi**ed off. She said that they have people park there all the time. Needless to say she got an ear full, most of which she probably had never heard in her ESL course if se had even had the class... Took me 15 minutes to get the trailer backed out of their parking lot to leave. I ended up finding a Super 8 with a nice big parking lot down the road...

Les - the only advice I can offer you would be to stop at exits where there are a pretty high concentration of truck stops. Usually in areas like this, there will be several motels and they should all have big truck parking or there will be a place you can park your rig very close to the motel. You probably won't have much luck anywhere else.

I don't know how particular you are, but a Knight's Inn (usually $26. 95) will most always have big truck parking. They seem to cater to people like yourself and trucker's with day cabs. Keep your eyes open on the interstate and you should see some other places advertising with truck parking.

By the way, if you're going to be around Nashville on the 29th of this month, you should come to our annual Mid-Tenn Chapter meeting in Dickson. Should be a pretty big turnout, plenty of eats, drinks, and wrench turning. Let me know if you think you can make it and I'll give you more details.

Take it easy.

geeze, at $27 a night I'd sleep inside too. Most here seem to be in the 50-60 range, no frills either. Some are cheaper if you can find one out of town. Usually I just stretch out across my bench seat (I always carry a small pillow and blanket behind the seat for these occasions). If it's cold I'll let her run but in the warm months, you don't even need heat. Whatever you do, good on ya for getting decent sleep. There's nothing worse than getting the sleepy eyes syndrome and still being an hour from the stop.

I appreciate all the advice. I've got out of town relatives in this weekend but I would like to participate in future Mid-Tenn Chapter events. I'll look to see if there is a link to the chapter and get "signed up".

I'm on the road Feb. 1st. , weather permitting. I've got my blanket and pillow but will keep an eye out for good parking motels as a first choice!
