2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Oversize tire sizes?

I have a stock ’97 2500 5 speed 2*4 with 3:54 gears. Some towing but most of my driving will be empty.



I want to install oversize tires on it but not sure what will fit. I have no plans on raising the truck (other than tire size).

I know about the speedometer/odometer differences, and have plans on getting an electronic module to take care of that issue.



I would like to know how tall have you gone, and what problems have you experienced from it (both pro and con).

305/70/16 goodyear ats no rub, they are only rated to 2960# per tire so you have to watch load.

I'm running 285\75\16 Les Schwabs & have never heard a rub... FWIW.

33 X 12. 5 on 16. 5 American Racing Baja's. They do rub a bit, but they have worn well and get excellent traction off road. They are a bit loud on the interstate for over an hour or so. But they look pretty mean!!!

For what I see listed, a 265 is the tallest tires anyone has seen on a stock 2WD?

Yep, 265/75 R16 Les Schwab XTX's and mine rub when turned lock to lock.

I have 265/75's on my '00 2wd with no rubbing. And as for the speedo correction, I hooked up my Diablo Hellion scantool which shows reads the ECM and shows digital rpms, speed, etc. and the speedometer is still perfect. It seems the tire size didn't change at all. I was confused because the 265's are a bit taller then the stock 245's. (1. 15" taller)

I run 285-75-16's, and mine is 2 Wheel drive, See my photo gallery. . they fit right, throw off the odometer, save miles on your clock, and wear well... . No rub, unless I back up and have wheel cut one certain way... I am happy, and all I have ever had was 285's. . You are safe with 285's... I have overloaded them with no problems. . 16 mama cows in the front of a trailer, truck squatting a little bit, tires bulging... I'd say they are worthwhile!

Do you have the front lifted at all? I have 285/75 BFG ATs on my 98 4x4 and they rub a little at the stops going over a bump.

Are those BFGs?

I have been going back and forth with the idea of installing 285's on my 2x4 next time. I know they will look great on the back, I am just worried they will be too big looking on the front.
