I’m looking for new tires for my 2x4. I want to go as oversize as I can. I’ve seen in earlier posts the tallest tires in a stock height 2x4 is LT265/75R16’s.

I haven’t found very many sources of this size (Load E) but I have I have found quite a few LT235/85R16’s (Load E), which is actually taller than the 265’s.

Does have any input about using the 235’s, in this case?

If you are running the factory chrome steel or painted wheel look at the 255/85R16. That may be a bit tall but it is a tad narrower the the 265/75. It is just a little taller than the 265 and the 235/85. I don't have a book here with me but can bring one home to quote the exact size if you can't find it online.

The 265 and the 235 are just about the same height. Firestone makes the 265 in 10 ply in the steeltex line.

My 255/85's are 33. 6 inches tall. Yes the tread is slightly narrower than my stock 245/75's (about 1/2"). It definately fills the wheel wells nicely on my 4X4. I can't say if it will fit on a 2wd.

I do have stock chrome wheels on my stock height 2x4.

I’m not sure how much difference 4x4’s would be in this case.

Thank you for your insight.

I bought four 235/85R16’s for my truck.

They are about 1½” higher than the 245/75R16’s they replaced and are doing very well. I have no rub on turns or any other difficulties that I can see.

I expected the odometer/speedometer to be off, but come to find out, it is now actually closer now than it was before hand (about 10%). Now I am now about 2. 5% off, which is negligible to me (counting mile markers, on long hauls).

I want to thank everyone for your help on this.

235 85's are fine for a 2WD. I'm running them... but I hate them. Too skinny for me personally. In general, 235 85 and 265 75 are roughly the same height... . the 235 being a tenth or two taller.

In general 245 75's are around 30. 5" while 265 75's are around 31. 7". Comparing worn 245's to new 265's might show 1. 5" difference.

A 245 series should be wider than a 235 in any tire. That number is the section width in millimeters regardless of the aspect ratio percentage. However different brands could vary and make this untrue in real life versus paper.

I really, really, really want 265/75-16 BFG AT's on my 2500 2WD but I know they will be too wide for my 6. 5" chrome factory wheels and will probably wear too fast because of this.

I wish somebody made 255/75-16's in 10 ply LRE... . or any LR for that matter. They dont exist.

Bud, glad you found something you liked.

Neil, on "paper" the 265's are too wide for the factory chrome. In real world they will wear pretty good, they do look a little wide for the wheels though.

I am going to start another thread, I have a dually and I want to go back to the 215 height but they look goofy skinny!
