A co worker wants to sell his 2004 305/555 3500 drw Laramie auto with 3. 73, nice rig and he has taken care of it. You owners of the same year truck, what says you? Happy campers or what should I be concerned about? I have been kicking around the idea of a new truck in the next year or so and a bit nervous about the 6. 7.

125,000 on mine and it has been an awesome rig. I did loose the rear ujoint at around 80,000 but that has been about all. TST since 12K. Get near or over 20mpg. I would grab it if it is in good shape and you can get it at any thing close to your price. No Cat, great power and economy, about as reliable as any of them. Go for it!

That's kinda what I was thinking, it only has 35k on it and priced right along with kelly blue book. I'm picking it up tomorrow and driving it for a bit and then, we'll see.

we are right there

Just as long as he's not asking too much. It should be around $25-27. 5K

We are talking 28k, I did the blue book search like 3 different times private party and excellent condition, and came out with 3 different quotes. The last one came back $28345. 00

You'll be happy with the truck. I have 65k on my 04. half of that mileage is from puilling a 32' 5er.

Truck is box stock and have had no problems

Good Luck in your decision

128K on mine - almost traded for an '06 but my brain finally got in gear and I stayed with the 305/555. I love the idea that it is the last year with NO emissions controls and the mechanical waste-gate. So far:

  • Replaced the serpentine belt - regular maintenance
  • Replace front axle u-joints with NAPA Precision part numbers
  • Under-hood lift pump failed - replaced under powertrain warranty

Did a full transmission rebuild after a bolt from the flex plate to the torque converter backed out while pulling a hill with the 5er hooked up... scared the bejeesus outta me.

Bottom line - could've done the '06 but stuck with the '04 for no emissions and good (better) mileage.

I havve 118,000 miles on mine and the first 72,000 miles it was a hauling hoss. The main thing is that you know the guy and he's taken care of it. With the low miles, I would say go for it.

As my sig shows, I have an '03 305/555 as well as an '04. 5 325/600 and an '06 325/610. ALL of them have been very good trucks to date. I'm also a little leary of the 6. 7's increased emmissions crap and I'm strongly considering buying my next fleet truck used. If I do, I'll be looking for an '03 or '04 (virtually identical) 305/555 with an NV5600.

my 2 pennies,

Dave

I just hit 70,000 on mine running 37s for the last 30K or so. Have not had any problems other then a Light switch that went bad and a shim that came apart in the front axle replaced under warrenty. But even with the 37s I still can get 17-18 on a pretty standard day. I would go for it. personally I intend to keep this truck till she falls apart which I hope will be many years from now (fingers crossed) :) .

Sounds like a good truck ,but I'd be for checking price on a new one first. Just for comparison My 06 bought in nov. 05, 3500 dually , slt, 4x2 , quad cab , cummins , 48re auto , flat floor storage , adjustable foot peddles , long box , big horn group , lighting group + ?? $35,000 out the door. Seems to me $28,000 + taxes is a little steep. You should be able to get a 07 equipped like mine for the same price I pd. And still get the 5. 9 motor if you hussel.

Hmmmm that price seems a little high, unless that is the exact perfect truck that you would want if you had a choice of options.

You can get a well equept 2500 QC, 4x4 for $32,000 now days.

Also are you sure you want a DRW? and was it babies and does it have the colors you want on int/ext.

I say all of this because I found my dream truck back in January. It was EXACTLY what I wanted for 25K. I got it off a fellow DTR member who BABIED the heck out of it. He was seriously anal about everything and planned on keeping it forever until he lost his job. He had towels laied across the dash and floor and has seat covers and armoral on all the door seals ect.

It was exactly what I wanted. 3500, 4x4, QC, SB, SRW, 6speed, Silver ext, Black int, Rhino Liner, tinted all windows, all the options and more. and 39K miles. The olny problem was it was 1,900 miles away, but since I wanted it so bad and it was a great price I bought a $79 plane ticket and flew from CA to TX and drove it back. He even meet me at the airport and drove me to AK to buy some rims off another DTR member.

Do you see what im getting at?

Since 28K is on the high end of prices make sure its exactly what you want and if not go buy a brand new one for $5K more.

Good Luck

Much like the old 12V mechanical...

the 305/555 may be the last of the good ones. I in no way mean to knock the 24V and 325/600's, but the 305/555 with no catalytic converter, no 3rd injection event, emissions mumbo jumbo, and slightly less stock HP may be the best motors since the BEST ones- pre 98. 5 12 valves. Good mileage and more than adequate power are two great benefits to this motor. Come to find out that one year ago, when I bought mine, I was in a toss up as to which "04" I wanted- identical trucks, except for color and mileage, 6,000 vs. 34,000 miles- same $$$! Dealer wouldn't tell me why they were the same $$, but now I know- the one that I didn't choose had the higher HP motor. And I am glad I did. Just about to roll 20,000 miles rolling 18 MPG... and seems to keep getting better.

I've definitely bonded with my `04...

I might go looking again in `09 when the G4 comes out. The 6. 7 motor should have any kinks worked out by then.

Love mine but still less than 23,000 miles. I've done a few mods, headed off the lift pump situation with a Walbro. Haven't had any problems though.

Same Reasons....

I just traded ky 02 HO for an 04 3500 SRW. So far I love the truck. I bought the 04 because of the lack of converter, and all the things already mentioned by others. Picked mine up for 25k with 66k on it Dealer needed to move it and even bought out the lease on my 02. I wish it was a 6 spd. though. (My wife can't drive a manual!) :-laf

Seems like with only 35K the truck is just getting broke in and should be in excellent shape. With the mileage evereybody gets outta the 04 it seems like a heck of a deal, and at 28K even at blue book you would probably spend 35K+ in todays money to get the same truck. Sounds like a nice rig. Good luck. Scotty

I had the u-joints go at 35,000 miles(replaced them with greaseable ones) and a brake sensor that needed replaced at 25,000 miles. I have around 44,000 miles on the OD and could not be happier with my truck. Oo.
