Just sold my '01 and am considering a black truck - since my dealer has located one that would be almost exactly what I would order... .

Q: Would you buy a black truck - if you could do it over again?

(Why or why not?)

(I'm looking at a QC dually so it won't fit in the garage)

Thanks!

Never owned a black truck but I did have a black volvo a few years ago and I promised myself... ..... Never Again!!

IMHO, black looks extremely elegant but the upkeep and the maintenence (washing) is too much. Plus, every little door ding or dent seems to be amplified.

I've owned several. I would do it again (and probably will considering it's her favorite vehicle color :D ). Takes some effort to keep looking good, but very hard to beat when they are cleaned up - except maybe by RED! ;)

I own a patriot blue truck and don't have a problem with it being constantly dirty. I do have a problem with every chip and scratch showing thruogh the very thin paint, never again will I own a dark truck with the latest paint

I have a black 03.

Pros:

1) It's a beautiful truck.

2) I get lots of looks.

Cons:

1) After 1 rain shower, the truck is filthy.

2) It shows every paint chip.

3) Buy lots of wax.

4) After it's washed, it needs to be towel dried or the water spots will show.

5) Dent's and dings show easy.

6) Harder to sell.

I still love my truck (even though it's black).

Like JungleDave I own a dark blue one and would never do it again. I've waxed it more in the 18 months I've owned it then I did in the ten years I owned my white 93.

People that buy black trucks always buy black. Well, people in my family are that way. :D

My black trucks are dirty most of the time from dirt roads, so is my white truck. If you like a clean looking truck most of the time the light brown and silver trucks have been the best to me. I'll probably go silver next time. Blue is as bad as black, red has aged out quicker on me (two red trucks, both over 10 years old). My white trucks age the best. Black ages well if it stays waxed IMHO. My detailer friend drives a 93 black F-250 Ford, he keeps it waxed, looks brand new from 10 feet, then you notice a few rock chips he has not fixed yet, he keeps it show room fresh and its his work truck.

I wouldn;t own a black vehicle... but am VERY happy with the graphite color of my truck. Dark yes... but easier to 'upkeep' than black IMO.

I haqv almond, which I feel looks better dirty than every color except maybe graphite.

I rarely wash my truck and the local dirt almost blends in .

My 95 was black. I think black is one of the prettiest colors but you got to keep em clean. My son had a black Z71 too. Funny how he totaled his 95(I think) and I totaled my 95. Anyway it is a beautiful color but I don't think I will ever get black again. I live in the country and they are harder to keep clean. I have had about every color of truck(except red) and the one I have now is white. Sons 99 is white and he told me how cooler they were and don't show dust as much so I got me one. But your gonna be driving it and paying for it so if you want black get it.

I love my black! IMHO, the darker colors look much better on the 3rd gens. Love to wash it, and it sure gets the looks! There's no doubt I'd get another one if something happened to this one - no regrets.

Having a dually, you won't be tempted to go through automatic car washes (can't fit), so that avoids scratches caused by the brushes. I always park my truck away from other people, so door dings aren't an issue (not an option if you live/drive in a big city). Trained the kids to never touch the truck, so basically, mine remains scratch-free (knock on wood).

I'm in construction, there's shovels leaning against the side, sand/gravel getting dumped into the bed (spilling over), Tree branches scratching while squeezing into tight areas, My dirty hands all over it, 2 very jumpy dogs w/sharp claws, etc... ... ... ... 120k, almost 5 yrs. & it still looks great!! Actually I think the little ding I put in side of the bed the second week I had the truck gives it more character!!:) But, on a side note..... It's not shiny every day... . That's the wonder of these work trucks. They look good no matter what color/condition!! It's all personal opinion.

I use it all day, tow everything that I have to, & then grab my Wife, throw on my suit & go to a wedding!! Dirty or not, the exhaust w/the PacBrake takes everyone's eyes right off the cleanliness;) - especially when the Valet guy looks at me & shakes his head nooooo waaayyyy & waves me right to the spot!!

Point is, dirt is dirt... you can only mask it soo much

Enjoy!!

Thanks for the responses... . my last two vehicles have been white and my 01 looked (and felt) better than it did the day I picked it up. I'd go white again, but the wife would kill me - I guess after having lived in AZ for 8 years, white always seems like the rational choice. But there is something mysterious about black... and sometimes its good to be irrational! :D

We'll let the numbers decide... .

You don't have your location posted, but I see in your last post that you are in Arizona. I'm in the Florida Keys & would never own anything black again. I guess black is OK up north. Down here in the south, lighter colors are cooler. When I lived up north, I had several black vehicles over the years. All bought used so no color choice. Besides, I'm kinda stuck on red Rams. My '04 is my fourth! '96 Sport, '98 CTD, '03 hemi, '04 CTD.

Blacktrucks are probably the best looking IMO. Especially Duallys!

But I bought White (graphite was on hold at order time), the last truck was two tone marron and black. The black was a PITA to keep clean, it showed every chip, ding, scratch, spec of dust.

If you are willing to spend the time to keep it clean and waxed buy it. Or be willing to drive a dirty truck.

I wouldn't buy another black truck b/c the chips show way to easy and it is hard to keep clean, if i had to do it all over again I would go with a silver color in a second.

I have a Black 3500, it's a '97 and I love the color. There are only two types of people that own black vehicles; those that take care of them, and those that do not.

Black vehicles take a little extra effort to keep up. They show dirt very fast, and yes they will reveal every scratch, chip and dent you get. Body shops know how important vehicle prep is on a black truck, they will let everyone know if they took their time and need the job right, black tells no lies.

At the opposite end of the spectrum, their is nothing like a shiny black truck or car. That is where the rewards lie for all the hard work you put in. In the day light they look great, shiny with a contrast of chrome sparkling against it. But at dawn or night, I think they look their best. The black get blacker and the contrast of the running and clearance lights looks way cool.

You have to love them to keep them up, it requires many washings, and a constant eye for detail. If you don't have the time, or Patience I would recommend a lighter color, silver seems to hide alot. there is nothing worse then a black truck that is neglected, it looks bad and on the truck and on the owner. Black also soaks up more then it's fair share of heat, which makes for some very hot inside temps during the sun. Vent Visors are a must, so the window can be left open some for the heat to escape. Also the window Shields are a must have item as well. I am willing to put up with all the extras it takes to own a black truck, To me the beauty is well worth the extra time and expense it takes to keep one clean. I even ordered my 36' Edge goose neck trailer in black, when clean they make for an awesome combo. I always go out of my way, when I see a good looking black vehicle, too tell the owner how nice it looks. I know what it takes to make it that way, and like to offer encouragement to others. Good luck with your new truck purchase.
