Westach combo gauge owners..... Could someone tell me if when they shut off their trucks whether or not their EGT gauge needle drops down to zero? I noticed when fueling yesterday that my gauge was still reading 350 degrees with the truck shut off. When I returned home and shut it off..... same thing. Checked on it later that evening and it finally returned to zero. I thought it always dropped to zero as soon as you shut off the truck.

Don't Worry - That's Normal

A pyrometer works by reading the voltage generated at the junction of two dissimilar metals (in the case of the Type K thermocouple, chromel and alumel) at the tip of the thermocouple. The Westach pyrometer is self-powered by this millivolt signal, so it will show the temperature at the thermocouple tip whether or not the ignition is on.



Note: This may not be the case with other brands of gauges that use amplifier circuits powered off the ignition switch.

What Rusty said... . Whatever it was. My Westach EGT doesn't go to zero either when the key is off.

Same with my Westech gauge. It doesn't return to zero when the key is turned off.

Thanks everyone for your replies... ... . It must be the rotella fumes confusing me. I thought for some reason that it use to return to zero on shut-down.
