Have a bead on a P-30 frito-lay van near me... might be looking at it tomorrow. If it has the 4bt I going to try and pick it up.

My question is... everyone removes the 4bt and puts it into something else. Has anyone ever tried to make the P-30 into something and just leaving the 4bt in it? I'm guessing they all had a non-OD transmission... and maybe too deep a gear to reach hwy speeds comfortably? If so... why not regear for that purpose?

IE... how much could it tow? It seems you could feasibly install plenty of extra seats for passengers AND still have lots of cargo room... maybe even chop the back of the box and fab a pickup bed??

Just some ideas. I'm bored and since I sold my '04 I'm not being very patient while I save up for/find my next truck. plus I'd love to have the 4 bngr cummins even if it just sits for a while.

I use a old bread truck for work. Actually it is down right now. I'm undecided on reusing the Cummins/4speed or going back to a v-8 /auto.

This little motor will do a great job moving the truck empty. We run at 11,000gvw and it runs right down the road fine. It has 245/16 tires and 3. 73 gears.

The young men that worked for me would burn up the clutch in 7,000 miles!!! I don't think it would be acceptable to go with the 4bt/auto. Everyone I talk to say I would not be happy.

It could make a cheap camper!!! Just get a 5 speed trans.

That's kind of along the lines I was thinking. I'd have easily enough cargo room for my work (I work for myself) and would be able to tow my jeep behind it. AND sleep in it on camping trips.

HMMM... have to really consider it.

IF it has the cummins.

We tried all day Saturday to contact the guy... he supposedly has 6 or 7 of them... we just don't know what motors they have or what condition they're in.

IF we can get in touch with him (seems doubtful after yesterday  ) we'll know more.

Last we heard he let them go for about $700 complete van. I'd pay $700 for a P-30 for sure if it had the 4bt... even in non-running shape.
