Engine/Transmission (1994 - 1998) Small coolant hose items

'94 and '95 p-pumps failing when hot, due to warped barrels, has been documented for over 20 years.

It's a design flaw and isn't universal. Either you have a good one or you don't. I believe that enough time has passed that most of the bad ones are out of circulation. The test, if your engine starts to run ragged or dies is to pour cold water over it and see if the symptoms go away. The '96 and newer ones have, I think, larger barrels among the upgrades in HP.

I never had a problem with my original ‘95 160hp pump that had over 500K miles on it. I replaced it with a low mileage virgin 175hp pump I’d bought several years ago when I had it off doing a complete engine reseal, not because it had something wrong. I sold it to a fellow who had it built for a drag truck. The pump shop told them it looked amazing to have that many miles on it.
