well I just threw away another $50. 00 I didn't have to waste on this rotten truck. . The new overflow valve showed up this morning and I put it in and the POS still dies if I let up on the throttle quick. this is getting very old. anyone have any Ideas besides taking it up to East St. Louis and leaving it on a street corner where there are no street signs and leaving it with the keys in it?

hard to tell what the idle is. The cheap factory gauge has un numberd lines to guess what they are supposed to be. The lines are not centered between the numbers like 1K and up for 1500 etc. All I can say is it used to not do it, then since this spring it has been dying when ever the throttle is let up quickly. I am used to it but my help refuses to drive the truck because of it. As for upping the idle, the truck willl run 10-15 mph without touching the throttle now. I think if I up the rpms it will oveheat the torqueconverter at a stopsign. I went out and started it up. there are 2 lines between the 0 and 1000. it idles slightly more than halfway between those two lines. the way they are spaced you would think that is 333 and 666 rpms instead of the 500's like the rest of them. That is with the AC on and in drive. in park, no ac then about one needle width below the second line between 0 an 1k. Thanks for the suggestions. Stealer had Cummins put a new pump on this thing last summer when they stole all my power away from me. How do I go about raising idle speed? I wanted to go to St. Louis this last weekend, even had directions and wife wanted me to go (waiting to hear about the meet) But a policeman friend of mine needed help repairing his tractor so I ended up doing that instead. Now if I had an 855 motor in this pickup... ... ... then it wouldn't be a problem. I can find what I am looking for without a flashlght and mirrors there.
i think the lines you are talking about are the 250 and the 750 rpm lines. in drive with the ac on, it should idle at least 750rpm ( the second line).
look at fritz's site for the specifics on upping the idle.
basically you just use the 10mm wrench and loosen the locknut on the idle screw on the rear of the injection pump at the bottom and turn the screw ccw till you get the number you want.
dseabaugh Just let me know when and were and I'll come and pick it up!!... ... hehe... have you checked the lift pump? I didnt read all the posts some one probably already mentioned it.
This is first truck I've ever had that rolled its own windows, shifted its own gears, and played its own tunes and I am basicly happy with the truck, but the warranty service from the stealers has been HORRIBLE and has caused much service to be needed that would have been if I had never taken it in for repair ever and just took care of it myself. Since I started taking care of this thing myself it has not needed any repeat service on the same item 2 to 4 times and not needed any repairs due to trying to steal from chrysler by tearing something apart that did not have anything wrong with it to start with. I just have been very agrivated with this dying crap all the time and don't dare take it to the parts replacers that can't repair crap. As to Cummiins, I took it to the daeler under warranty (Now expired) who took it to Cummins gateway. Morlan Dodge wouldn't pay Cummins who had to do the work over twice (and I lost all my power and fuel milage)
and a year later I get a letter from Cummins Gateway that since Morlan Dodge would not pay for the warranty work they were going to sue me for the bill since I owned the truck. We would be better off if we ordered our trucks and parts out of a catalogue and they came with a big honkin shop manual. Thanks. I'll try to find the screw and give it a twist. If Chrysler would have put a decent trackbar, transmission, gauges, and brakes on these trucks then GM and Ford would have closed their truck plants long ago. Thanks for letting me let off steam, Been a rough couple of weeks. Thanks for your input, you guys are the greatest!
