Big thanks to J. R. Adkins for a successful P-Pump conversion. It was alot of work but we got it done. Truck is running great, revs alot quicker and has more low end power. And that is with the AFC not hooked up, so were basically in valet mode. Once I get it hooked up, the truck will fuel alot harder. If anyone's interested in doing this conversion, I'd recommend giving him a call.

You'll need to talk with J. R. to get a price. As far as the pros and cons, the cons, it is a good bit of work. The work really ain't that bad just takes some time. Cost isn't as bad as some people have reported in the past, it does take some money to get all the parts together. The pros, alot more reliable, revs quicker and seems to pick up faster on the bottom end. You can make alot more adjustments to the p-pump, can't do much with the vp-44. As soon as the weather breaks, gonna start playing with it and adding some more fuel to see how it responds. Anyone looking for a VP-44 I have one for sale now :)

Can you give a brief rundown of the parts that would be needed for this conv. ? I'm wanting to do the same thing! Danged VP44's- they just cant take us into the Big H. P. area without using addititives. I'd rather make the big numbers THEN start "playing" .

Good Luck with it!!

Some may be surprised whats in the pipeline coming for the VP guys... ... I will predict that if all works out the VP guys will soon be able to push all the fuel the want/need.

I really dont care about big numbers. I am looking for reliability and longevity. The only thing the VP is guaranteed to do is fail.

RacinDuallie,

I will try and remember the parts that you will need. Of course you will need the pump and 12V pump gear, new injector lines, 12V timing cover with the timing pin hole modified to fit the cam sensor in. You will need a spacer to go on top the grid heaters to make room for the injection lines. You will need a small T to screw into the side of the block to run oil to the p-pump. Then you'll need to modify the return line for the pump. We used a push pull choke cable to turn the fuel off and on, instead of a shutdown solenoid. You'll need to do something with the fuel supply to get enough fuel to the p-pump. Thats pretty much all I can think of right now, there's just little things that pop up that you may need. I can give you J. R. 's number if your interested in him doing this for you.

Update,

Got the AFC boost line hooked up today, wow, what a difference that made. We left this line off at first because we kind of ran out of time and I wanted to see what the truck felt like at first. Truck spools up alot quicker now, hardly seeing any smoke at all. Time to start playing with the injectors now, we'll try some bigger ones before long. It's so nice to get under the hood and be able to tinker with your pump :D

Were can I get a set of lines and how much? I have a pump and should be able to get the other parts. I want it bad. I have a whole extra 12vavle sitting in the garage. Don't know what I'm going to do with it?

I Hope Doug is right as I have heard of two different things suposed to come for the Mighty VP44 trucks. I am not giving up on the vp yet. Hope it doesn't take them to long.

JTroiano, you can get the lines from Haisleys or Scheids. I think the price is around $400 or so, make sure you get the pre-bent ones.

I thought it came with pretty much everything except for the pump. Not sure if it came with modified timing cover for cam sensor.

:--) Oo.
