I have a chance to purchase a CUMMINS from a '94 for $1500. What benefits can i expect from doing this "swap" in my '92? The P-PUMPED engine has 200,00 miles on it.

been there done that

stock not much the 1 st gen stock is better around town driver more low end tork

if hp is what u want then the 2 nd gen is the way to go

use your 1 st gen front cover and fan so it stays centered as the 2 nd gens are off center about 2 inches

all other will bolt in the starter may hit frame i notched mine

the p 7100 may hit the mstr cyc i used a 2nd gen spacer in front of the nv45oo 5 spd not sure if stock 1st gen transd will put mtr in right place so pump clears mstr cyc like i said been there , read the old tdrs from about 2 yrs back i wrote story on this

The low hp P pump you will be getting can still add some power vs. what you can tweak the VE pump to get. You can probably get 200-250 hp easily with the VE, and another 50-100 easily with the P pump. Not talking about absolute max possible, just what is usually achieved. It is an involved swap. You need to remove the front end of the truck, remove the camshaft, change the gear case, check carefully for clearance to the brake booster and master cylinder, etc. I assume you want the P pump engine as a parts donor, not a complete swap. I would use the camshaft out of the 1994. If so, keep the lifters in order and use them too.

My sons and I put a '96 into the oldest ones '90. We used just about everything off the '90 except for the throttle cable. We also got the front end off a '93, so we could use the intercooler and bigger radiator. It's very do-able and we didn't have any clearance problems, but I too thought the pump would hit the master cylinder... ... ...

Yes,FORREST you are correct. I plan on taking the truck apart anyway when i do the swap,as i have a nicer cab and box. The previous owner must have been a heavy drinker, because there isn't a straight panel on the truck !I still need front fenders, but i can buy them from a local supplier.
