Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) P-Pumped 24V Battery not Charging

My truck has been converted to a P-7100 pump. We did not hook up the cam sensor. My truck runs fine, but will not charge the battery. We tried putting a 70's mopar voltage regulator on it. It would charge, but the wire you tap into will not let the transmission shift out of first gear. Any information on how to bypass the cam sensor to get the alternator to charge would be appreciated. My truck is a 2001 2500 4x4 auto.

I run that voltage regulator on my p-pump conversion. Mine is a first gen with a 24valve conversion. Works fine, but I have a manual transmission.

When i did my convertion, at first i didnt put my cam sensor. I had the same troblem My AC wouldnt turn on and my batter wouldnt charge trans wouldnt shift there was also couple of other things that didnt work also. I put the cam sensor back in and then everything stated to work just fine. You need to put the cam sensor in

Ok, where/ how did you install the cam sensor?



I installed the cam sensor into the same hole as the top dead center pin was in but it only charges intermittantly, it will charge for about 2 min then the tach will drop to 0 and the volts start dropping, turn off the key then on again and it will charge a while longer and the tach works again. I hunted for bad grounds and loose wires for 2 weeks, just gave up and installed a regulator on the back of the Alt. it is a "c8315" self regulator board just a bit bigger than a postage stamp, I did have to add a power wire to give it 12vdc when the key is on. Seems to work great and charges at 13. 8 now Oo.

Didnt olee do your conversion. What did he suggest?

You can use that hole, but you need to egg shape the hole a little and build a spacer to get the correct depth and placement of the sensor.

This may be my problem. I put a 92 Cummins in a 99 V-10 Auto truck. I used the V-10 Alt. but no charge, no shift. I wonder if a 24 valve cam sensor wil work on a 92 engine?
