I recommend replacing the motor with a 12v. Its a TON cheaper and there are parts to make it work well..... When I did mine it took a lot of dyno time to get it to run its best. You also give up variable timing so you can really only tune for a certain rpm spread. To get a p-pumped truck to make the same HP as a VP truck you must add lots more fuel, so the truck needs to be overfueled pretty heavily.
If you are looking to make max HP then doing the conversion might be woth it. But unless you are looking for greater than 800 HP the VP is the way to go in my opinion.
If you are sold on the mechanical pump replacing the 24v motor with a 12v is much cheaper to get to run. There is no machining of parts, most diesel mechaics can work on them, and parts are available. To just get the 24v motor to rev above 3400 without valve to piston contact new spring are a must ($800-$1500). Injectors are another issue, there really aren't any great injectors for this setup..... Lowering the pop-pressure helps but still this is not optimum.
Good luck,
Doug
