Ever since I surfed the Practical Solutions website several months ago (and subsequently ordered one their Heavy-Duty Idler Pulleys)...

I just can't seem to get their Heavy-Duty U-Bolt/Anchor Plate Kit off my mind. This replaces the 1/2"* diameter rear leaf spring U-bolts with much heavier-duty, 3/4" diameter counterparts.

* The product description on the P. S. website states that the OE U-bolts are 9/16" diameter. I measured mine and they were in fact, 1/2" in diameter. That equates to a 150% increase!

Who out there has purchased and installed the larger than life P. S. U-bolt kit?

Please elaborate on installation as well as any performance changes noticed before and after.

TIA

John :D

I put a set of add-a-leafs on and replaced the stock 4. 5" lift block with a shorter one. When I did this, I had to get shorter U-bolts. I ordered a set from Superlift. They ended up being 5/8" diameter, and I had to enlarge the holes in the stock plate. I don't know how much of an advantage they are, but it can't hurt.

I did notice the price of the P. S. kit after I did mine and was suprised how much they wanted. For the money they want, the stock ones would always have a home. On the rear of my truck!

I looked at this kit when it first came out. I just can't convince myself that a larger U-Bolt will be of any real world benefit, especially at a premium price.

When I put my Skyjacker 4. 5" lift on mine, I flipped my u-bolts and got new 3/4" u-bolts made. I can't tell that it made any difference, but I'm not running high HP and off-roading much. However, they do look pretty cool! I would just have a new set of U-bolts made ($80. 00) and get the holes enlarged to 7/8. "

Stronger u-bolts

I went with the PS u-bolts just because, and the SS Ladder bars.

Overkill never hurts.
