Help please, went to start my truck the other day and had to crank like hell. Then later that day same thing, this time as soon as I put it in drive it died again... . crank like hell, starts, put in drive dies, only managed to get going by keeping revs up. Put on the scanner and getting P0216, could it be anything but the vp, hate to spend all that money still have the problem. Thanks in advance for any and all help I can receive, I haven't been on here much lately, thanks to dialup, moved out to the farm, no highspeed.

The P0216 is fuel injection pump timing failure. It can be caused by a loss of fuel pressure but from what I've learned that usually isn't the case and you're looking at replacing the VP44.

Regards, Mike.

216 is a slow death (electronic usually) I drove for three weeks with that code, it was my fault from to much fuel pressure. When I put the new VP44 on it was still running but smoking a bit.

My pump is dying and throwing no code at all. Just getting dead pedal at seemingly random times (for nearly a year now). VP's seem to die in all kinds of different ways, I would prefer the code failure, 'cuz then I'd know its dead.

A 216 code can be set by air in the fuel supply. Also if the lift pump has failed that can also cause it. Once in a while you will see a injector stuck open that puts combustion pressure into the VP44 and that has set the 216 code also. But usually the 216 code is set by diaphram or diaphram seals leaking. This is usually caused by failed transfer pump. Bosch did make some brass bore housings that would wear fast and cause the same 216 code. It could also just be worn out or you have contamination in the pump. Thanks

I just got the same code on mine, last night, if it can be tripped by a fuel filter change I am hoping mine is ok, as I changed the filter two days ago.

Has anyone had FASS problems, I am currently running one with only a superchip programming upgrade, my VP44 and FASS only have 50K on them so I am hoping there are no issues. When installed I had 20psi, but have not checked the fuel pressure since.

Sounds like the VP 44. My truck was doing the same thing. Had the VP repalced and no problems. Luckily I ws still under the extended warranty!! No problems since the replacement.

Very interesting. Thank You.

It happened again, another P0216 code, prior to throwing the code, had my truck running down the highway and my acceleration stopped at 55mph, and stayed there until I let up on the pedal then it let me cruise to 80. Is there a way to check for air in the system. My VP44 has under 50K on it, and I am running a FASS fuel pump. Also does anyone know of a good shop near Thornton, Co. I may just pay to have it fixed.
