My truck went to the garage on Thursday. The slave cyl on the clutch went south plus it has the 0216 code. The truck has 47K on it. Waiting to hear back from them.

I'm on the list too. Thought the truck had been feeling a little sluggish off and on. 216 code has been there for a few months, and came right back after i had it wiped out. Being stubborn, and not wanting to believe the writing on the wall, i went racing. :)

At the track last night, instead of being faster, it was slower. Ran a 13. 72, then 13. 80, then 13. 92, all at about 96mph. What a dissapointment. I was going 13. 20 @101. 5mph, before and that was with defueling problems. Took care of the defueling with a BD RAD, and now the truck has no power.

Now i'm trying to decide if it's even worth taking in for warranty. Probablly not, but i'm waiting to hear the results from a few in this thread.

Later,

Chris

Well its getting worse, looks like I will be ordering a new pump next week. I get the dead pedal thing a fair amount now. Looks like the twins are going to be waiting another month or two :( :(

Jeff, I am in the same boat with the dead pedal and codes. I have been like that for 2K miles. Sometimes it does not seem as bad as others. I cruise at 11PSI, but can pull the FP down to 3PSI with an EZ box while accelerating.

My question to all of the "VP44 replacer veterans" is after you replaced it did you run a FASS system or the higher flowing banjos, or what? I guess what I am wondering is:

Is the VP44 reliable if given enough fuel pressure?
I think I can get the dealership to warranty since I only have an EZ, but is the replacement going to die in 55K miles again if I don't get it more fuel?

I dont have any fuel pressure problems with mine, I get 10-11 psi full bore on mine with my home made fuel system. I think it just boils down to we take these things beyond their "reliability" point and put added stress on them. Thought about yanking the stuff off my truck and seeing if I could warranty it but hey, I guess I gotta pay to play.

I installed a aeroquip -6an fuel system (summit racing) and a pusher pump, relay and a cut out switch in the cab just in case the high pressure hard start thing happens... hasn't yet though.

21 psi at idle 15 WOT. Pictures of my fuel system on this link

My situation seems to have taken on a new twist.....

Last Wednesday I made an appointment at my dealer to have them take a look at my CTD and see what they could make of it. The appointment was set up for Friday afternoon. Later Wednesday, I filled up the fuel tank, but at a station that I stop at only occasionally, instead of the station where I normally fuel up. I headed home and did an oil change, plus plugged a small hole in one tire where a screw was embedded. I also greased the front end, and checked all of my fluid levels.

There were some things I did not do, as I had done them the week before in an attempt to rule out all of the possibilities: New air filter, drained the water separator, cleaned the IAT sensor, disconnected my high idler. None of these changes made any difference, the problem continued.

After purchasing fuel, changing oil, and greasing the front end, the truck did not misbehave at all. Ran great! Obviously, the oil change, grease job, or tire repair would have nothing to do with the fuel system.

Well, on Friday, I called the dealer and cancelled my appointment for two reasons:

1. I didn't want to spend the afternoon sitting at the dealer. :(

2. If we cannot get it to misbehave, what is the sense of taking it in?

The CTD continued to run just fine, did not miss a lick - until Saturday - I did not add any more fuel, or anything, but it misbehaved and lost all power shortly after a cold start Saturday evening when I was headed home from the farm.

Has anyone else seen this type of problem come and go in this manner? I was beginning to suspect poor fuel instead of the VP44, but since it acted up once since then, on the same tank of 'good' fuel, I am beginning to have my doubts.

BYW - Fuel pressure is always right up there between 10 and 15 PSI.

Any thoughts?
