My check engine light and a p0216 error keeps poping on. Changed ez and I thought it was ok. But after a few days on again. Any ideas? the truck has 76 k on it and had a new vp44 at about 30k.

About 2 weeks ago I got a 0216 code. "injection pump timing failure" As i was checking things out someone mentioned low transfer pump pressure. I was taking my pressure from ahead of the fuel filter. When I moved the tube to the injection pump I discovered that I had a plugged fuel filter. Replaced the filter, reset the computer and have no problems since.

I was reading the Cummins service manual, discovered that the injection pump timing advance is done by a solenoid that allows high pressure fuel to rotate the timing ring. If there is not enough fuel to the pump the timing advance doesn't work and a code is set.

If that doesn't take care of it, the injection pump may be failing again. GOOD LUCK tom

My code seems to pop at a idel right after you start it. I dont think it is a pressure problem. Is there a place to get parts for a vp44????

no, nope, absolutly not! as far as i have heard. and don't think anyone can work on them but the manufacture unless it has changed recently.

SEmerson, and tgbol,

just wondering where the p-O216 code is "popping" up at? scan tool or odometer window?? please reply as i have a seperate post for this question. thanks

When my check engine light came on it was over the weekend. I got the code from the odometer. I asked the forum about it and got the answers about lack of fuel pressure. I found a plugged fuel filter. I have a DRB III sacn tool at work so I used it to reset the code and have not seen it since.

thanx for the reply. i just cant figure out why it didnt show on mine. or a check engine light. i'm starting to think a have a somewhat fualty ECM. anyone know how much one costs?

Any one have an internal electrical schematics of the VP44

To SEmerson, the first is to test the electrical controls from the ECM,I don't have an internal schematics of the VP44 so I can't help you with the actuall VP44 internal stuff. The first test is to make sure the VP44 is getting powered up,the fuel pump relay powers up the VP44 at pin #7 of the VP44,( red and lightgreen)or pin 87 at the fuel pump relay, fuse #3 in the power distribution box under the hood feeds batt. voltage to the relay (red & white)pin #30 ,ECM powers up pin 86 at the fuel pump relay (brown& white)to energize relay. Pin 85 is a black wire which is relay ground. Can anyone please post the internal wiring diagram of the VP44 and what each of the 8 wires, do so we may learn to do our own checks.
