P0243/P0480 codes HELP! Daves Diesel, Indiana WARNING!! UPDATE!!

I post because I have 2 codes I need help with. p0243 and p0480. I had the fan clutch replaced under warranty. The code is now back again after 10 miles. didnt fix the problem. What should I help steer the dealer towards? I am dropping it off tomorrow and it is obvious they have no clue.

Also, I have no engine warranty since I dropped the valve seat on my modded CTD, but I keep getting the p0243 code since the motor swap. The engine was replaced by daves diesel in IN. The code is an overboost code I believe. I trip that code even with the edge box on STOCK. Not sure what is going on. ??

May or may not be related to the code, but I dont post here often and I had some problems with this vendor:

This is all on the replacement engine I bought from Daves Diesel. Supposedly 19k miles. not sure of mileage since daves diesel in IN. never supplied me with proof of the mileage on the engine they swapped in for me. I urge anyone to be careful dealing with them. I feel flat out ripped off. Thy are great until you hand them $$ and then they couldnt care less. I have been trying to get an aftermarket warranty on the truck since the recent failure. For that to be approved, I need to prove the mileage of the new engine. 4 months later and 50+ calls to Rick at Daves Diesel has left me with nothing but excuses.

I own a salvage business and to not supply a vin and verification with a motor is a crime. I called them every day for months and i recieved nothing but excuses. Here I am months later with NO paperwork or proof I have a 19k engine. The engine cover that came with the new engine showing its HP etc. . was scraped off with a razor and set aside on the back of a shelf. My stock cover was put on the used engine in my truck. I noticed and looked until I saw the used one tucked away next to the work area. They didnt know I knew about that and I called them on it. They played dumb and said maybe the wreck peeled it off. LMAO!!! It was obviously peeled off intentionally. Rick seems like a decent guy in person, but nothing but excuses and the runaround after he got my $$ for the job.

Problems since the install include

- they left a couple nuts off fuel rails and other engine components that made things rattle like a mofo and made me nevous. Found errors and repaired. not a big deal.

-They never adjusted the trans cable or the new engine. Had a big problem with 2nd and 3rd gear starts after the install. I took off SLOW to not hurt it or had to ram the shifter from D back to P then the D to make it pop into first. not fun. Easy to tell when I am in first with the dtt trans etc... NO problems before the new motor was rushed in. The transmission is now slipping under boost and will cost 1800-2k to rebuild. They told me they were in a rush to get it done for me and didnt adjust the linkage or something like that. I guess it was my fault. :/ (I was in a rush to get truck back, but not in an unnaceptable manner) BIG DEAL

-cant get a warranty since there is no proof of the motors history BIG DEAL

-Forgot to mention the turbo on the motor I bought wasnt good, so they had to ship me one while I borrowed one from a friend to get back on the road. No clue on that mileage either and my friend is ****** I handed him back an unknown mileage turbo. BIG DEAL

I explained to DD how important the vin etc. . was to me so I can get the warrnaty and keep the truck while trusting it. Rick didnt give a care in the world. 4 months later, no help, no vin, slipping trans, engine codes, and an unhappy customer.

In the end, I just need help with the codes from the faithful TDR members. I felt like venting about an extremely bad experience with a vendor to go with it to try and help others out. I gave them 4 months to make things right. They just hoped I got tired of calling. I am not some upset kid that cant afford to fix his broke truck. I understand you pay to play (which I did), but I also believe in getting what you pay for and treating a customer right. They failed on both. I know they wont help without being forced legally, so I figured I would post until I decide whats next. Just in case, I have logged every communication/photograph/paperwork etc. . since the engine cover ordeal. Havent looked into anything further, too busy with work to decide if I should hand it all off.

I was trying to get the truck where it was reliable and with an aftermarket warranty. Thanks to DD, not possible. Please help me with the above codes if you can. The dealer wont help with the p0243 since it is engine related. thanks!!

Stay away from Daves Diesel!!! If they decide to do the right thing and make the effort to make things right, I will edit accordingly.

Sorry to hear about your event at DD

Im not sure on the codes, could it be a ECM to engine issue being a motor swap?

Not sure what year of truck you have, but a DRB or STARSCAN will pull the mileage off the ECM. Of course if they used your orginal ECM that wouldn't do you any good...

The moderators removed this thread for a minute because of a few TDR members suggesting I sue Daves Diesel and the chance that this could become a legal matter (not approved discussions as I now understand).

Please leave legal matters out of this thread. Please PM me privately if you have a comment about things of that nature or other matters involving the police or court. Thanks.

Thanks also to the TDRadmin for putting this thread back up so I can get more help on the trouble codes and also voice my experience with Daves Diesel in Indiana.

The dealer found the fix and it gets nothing but worse for Daves Diesels service and repair testimonial. The trouble codes I have were a result of a plug and some wires not being secured in their factory location. I guess they were routed wrong/not clipped in place and rubbing against the engine and that was the source of the trouble codes.

1-2 days of a tech searching for the issues at the dealer isnt going to be cheap I am sure. Of course I dont have a warranty. As the Daves Diesel Disaster continues to grow in cost (dont forget trans rebuild needed also), as well as still not being able to warranty the truck (havent supplied vin 4+ months later), I am going to need advice on handling this matter.

Getting very upset thinking about how I have been treated by Daves Diesel ands what I have gone through because of their work and lack of service. Going to get the truck now. :/

Thanks for all the PMs' everyone. I appreciate the sugestions and also the support. Not sure the Daves Diesel horror stories I have heard make me feel any better though. Maybe we should start a club or get our own forum on this site? lol

I have no plans to Daves Diesel myself at this point. I guess there is a slim chance they do the right thing, supply a vin for the motor, supply a vin for the turbo, cover the trans rebuild costs and cover the troubleshooting labor since it was all their doing. From my dealings with them in the past, I am doubting it.

Emorad

Sorry to hear about your trouble with DAVE'S DIESEL. I have got to wounder if its the same place , I have knowen Rick for over 6 years now & never had any of the things happen that you have talked about, Rick has always tried to go out of his way to help. Over the years he has put different parts on my truck, so that I could see if the helped my mileage or not, have tried diff. chips & intercoolers. If the didnt work, there was no hassel , we just took them off & did not cost any thing. I just got one ? for you . If the truck was under warranty , why did you not leave dealer work on it?????

We were called Sunday Night April 23, 2006 and were asked to look at a 2005 DODGE for an Ed Morad. On Monday Morning April 24, 2006 we loaded the truck on the trailer and hauled it to the SHOP. Three (3) hours later and two (2) employees out of the shop we finally got the truck to the shop.

We found that the Engine was locked up and pulled the head. Then found valve seats had dropped and the valves were destroyed. Cylinder was damaged as well.

“You get the picture”

We called the dealer he said as long as the truck was put back to stock they would warranty the TRUCK. Mr. Morad DID NOT want to wait and DID NOT have his stock parts. He asked us to find him an Engine and needed his truck back by FRIDAY evening. We started searching for one on Monday. I sent and employee down to Anderson, IN to get it. At NO TIME DID MR. MORAD ASK FOR A VIN # OR SERIAL NUMBER #. We were told the engine had 19,000 or 20,000 miles on it.

The Engine was installed Wednesday April 26, 2006. We didn’t have a TURBO in stock. Mr. Morad brought a TURBO Thursday April 27, 2006 to be installed and adapted to his Exhaust. Mr. Morad stayed till we could adapt it and install it on the truck. We fired the Engine for the first time at 4:30pm and he left at 6:00pm. We told him to keep us informed on how it ran. I gave him Ricks Cell Phone number, just incase of any problems.

Mr. Morad called that night and also the next day and said, “Thanks the Truck Runs Fine!!” “But I would like to have a Serial Number for the Engine. ”

As for the TRANS. Adjustment it ran fine when we drove it with Mr. Morad.

When Mr. Morad said it was taking off in 2nd. We talked about kick down and shift quality. Sounded like he needed a Noise Suppresser from DTT, since that’s whose parts are in the Trans. Rick told Mr. Morad that they will work hard to take care of any problems they might have.

As for the S/N I have not given up I have asked my supplier more than once in fact several times, but still have not received it.

As for the comment that we hid parts, the techs were throwing wrenches so fast they or Rick would not have had time to think about it. Nor would we hide a cover not something we would do or need to do!! The truck has not been brought back for any work even when Mr. Morad called on the codes. We offered to HELP if it was brought over to the shop.

The Engine cost us $5,500. 00

We charged $1400. 00 for the install, tow, and freight charge for picking up the engine in Anderson, IN.

We had the truck 3 ¼ Days

I would attach the invoice to this post but its not letting me. If you would like to see the invoice yourself please say so ill e-mail it to you.

Thanks,

Dave's Diesel
