Hey guys, A friend of mine is having a problem that sounds very similar to the problem I had a few weeks ago! His 2001 3500 shut off on him yesterday going down the road and wouldnt restart. I came over and pulled the codes for him. They are P0253, P1688 and P1689. I am assuming he has a failed vp44 like i did. Am I correct? Or are there any other possibilities to look into before condemning the pump? and lastly where would be the best place to get a pump if need be?... ... (i was lucky in the fact that my brother had one off his wrecked 24v :) ) Thanks for your help!

P0253 is fuel injection pump fuel valve open circuit. P1688 is internal fuel injection pump controller failure. P1689 is no communication between ecm and injection pump module. None of these sound good. I've only had a few friends loose there VP-44's and all three trucks had the P0216 code. Fuel injection pump timing failure. Hope this points you in the right direction.
