Engine/Transmission (1998.5 - 2002) P0336 Crankshaft Position Sensor?

My truck threw a P0336 code the other morning. According to what I've read this is a crankshaft position sensor. The only thing I've noticed different is that the throttle can be a bit erractic at low rpm's while my Edge box is on the stock setting.

I cleared the code and it has not come back yet. The Dodge dealer here wants $105 just for the sensor. I was thinking of trying Cummins here in Nashville as they are usually cheaper on parts than the Dodge dealers around here. Should I worry about replacing it soon or wait and see if the code comes up again?

When mine did this, it just got worse to the point every time I would let the rpm drop to below 1200 it would start sputtering and finally die. I got mine from Cummins for $53. Make sure the engine is warm before removing the old sensor as it comes out much easier. Some have told stories of it breaking off in the block and having to take it out in pieces.

Im one who has had a bad experience replacing haha. I would get it repaired asap. It will leave you sit if it takes a crap altogether.

Thanks for all the help here. I ran to Cummins here in Nashville today and grabbed a new sensor for around $58 with tax. A whole LOT better than the $105 the Dodge dealer here wanted. Had the old one out and the new one in within about 20 minutes in my apartment parking lot. I didn't actually realize how long this thing had probably been going bad. The biggest difference I noticed was how much smoother the truck idled while coasting. A pretty easy fix and made a big difference in how smooth the throttle response is and how smooth the engine runs in general.

mine just did the sam thing took it to rpm they reset and runs fine now but you suggest to replace... ... ... anyway right

I had cleared the code in mine and it continued to run but I replaced it anyways to avoid being stranded somewhere if it quit altogether. It was really a simple fix. And like I said, I didn't realize how rough the idle had actually gotten especially when the truck was coasting going down the road. It almost sounded like a truck with a ton of timing and cam almost loping when it was coasting before I replaced the sensor but now its as smooth as can be. Well worth the $58 for peace of mind that it won't quit completely and leave me stuck somewhere.
