Turbo question?

Let's see: 2008 SLT Cummins Ram. Has a security system with remote starting capability. Unlocked the truck from the house and hit the remote start button according to the fob everything was A OK. Not so when I got outside, it won't start, won't turn over. Check motor light on and it stays on now with the key turned off.

I have since erased the code yet still no starter turning. I will monitor but will need to build a bridge to get my wife's car out from in front of my truck. Technology is so great... when it works.

Tanks beforehand for any knowledge/wisdom you can bestow. Off to build a bridge.

Check the batteries. Are they discharged?

Some 2008 trucks, mine included, have experienced early battery failures. Check for a dead cell in one. Replace both batteries with new matching batteries if you find a bad one.

Is the remote start device an aftermarket add-on? I would suspect it and disconnect it to see if the problem reoccurs.

Let's see: Truck came with an aftermarket alarm and remote starter (Avital 5300), the truck has been on charge for an hour or more at 15A and is down to maybe 8A (Passenger side) I had it on the driver for a while before at 15A and it read 12A after a 1/2 hour. I'm looking into batteries. I get nothing no clicking or spinning at the starter. On in stall replace one battery at a time? Is there a certain procedure that must be followed to replace the batteries?
Thanks!

The only thing you lose when both batteries are removed at same time are your radio presets. If you install one fresh hot new battery in parallel with another discharged, old, and weak battery you'll have a flash of high current flow between batteries. Probably not a good thing.

The dash right now is showing a yellow engine sign, seat belt, TPMS, radio face light, and overhead console all are lit. I am flummoxed! Recommendations? I don't know, maybe when I tried the remote starter this morning it got stuck somewhere in the process. Right now I have a large block of steel in my driveway.

Possible causes

GENERAL NETWORK ERROR

KEY NOT PROGRAMMED

INCORRECT KEY

INCORRECT VIN IN ECM OR WCM

LOSS OF COMMUNICATION BETWEEN ECM AND WCM

ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)

You pretty much need a scanner to keep from spinning your wheels on this one.

Yes! I read it before I erased. Something about a key, how does a key loose it's ability to connect all of a sudden.

Because its an after market starter system. If it goofed up it could have set the anti theft off It's more than likely the culprit if indeed your batteries are good.

Sounds like the aftermarket security and remote start system isn't talking nice to the ECM and CANbus. #@$%! If you have a second keyfob, try resetting the system with it - it may be something as simple as a low or dead battery in your main keyfob, or the aftermarket security system itself may have gone tango uniform. If the ECM doesn't see the right code from the ignition key or, in your case, the remote start system, it thinks the truck is being stolen and locks everything up tighter than a tick - which sounds like what you're seeing.

My 2007 BMW K1200GT motorcycle had a similar problem, although probably not from the same cause. The motorcycle used an induction loop antenna that surrounded the ignition switch to read the code in the ignition key. BMW got a bad batch of antennas from a supplier, and naturally I got one that failed. The electronic panel would just read EWS (which is German for Engine Won't Start), and you're stuck by the side of the road (or, luckily in my case, in my driveway) until the bike goes to the dealer on a flatbed for a new antenna and a reset of the ECM - thank God for warranties and free roadside assistance/towing.

Remove the aftermarket security and remote starter system and hope you can clear the alarms and get it started again without a tow to a dealer.

I have never been a fan of aftermarket electronics on a complex truck like our late model Rams.

I feel sort of embarrassed to tell y'all. I finished installing the other battery this morning. Heard a click looked at the dash it had cleared. It starts!!! I believe the remote starter tried to start it a few mornings ago when I tried to start it. It got caught somewhere in the process due to the code. My fob showed some sign of cold weather start security. Yeah! Wife says I told you so! Love that women!

i have a remote start. . (afterrmarket) i get this code about very other month.
for me the code doe not cause the no start. i get the code but it still goes.

one time did have to unhook the batteries for about 40 minutes, the it started right up.
