So this morning I got a check engine light:

p0572 - Brake Switch 1 Low

p0514 - Battery Temperature Sensor Performance / Rationality

I assume the p0572 is the brake switch on the pedal going out??? But on the p0514, what the heck is that? Theres a sensor on/near my batteries that went out?

I went to pismo beach on Sunday, truck was fine Monday, and this morning it started up with these two codes and the SES light. Can the sand/water from the beach have gotten into some connectors possibly? Only water I went through was the stream crossing thats about 2" deep to get to the dunes. And my truck was parked at camp all day, not out romping in the soft stuff.

Anyway, people that have had these codes, what generally was wrong?

Alright getting deaper in my searching I'm seeing the 0514 may be a bug in the programming. Hmm, guess that fits in nicely with my erronious buzzers and ses lights that flash on/off while driving.

Still no luck on figuring out what the 0572 could be. I searched but every resultis just a post that lists all the codes... Anyone that has had this figure out what it was? My brake lights work so I can't see the switch being bad.

My PDM says:

P0572 - Low voltage detected at the brake switch.

Possible Causes: brake switch input shorted to ground.

Repair Instructions: repair brake switch shorted to ground.

That's got to be the simplest code in this entire book! Apparently, the only possible cause is the switch is shorted. I'd probably just order a new one and slap it on there...

Isn't there a temperature sensor under the batteries that tells the computer how much to charge the battery based on temp? Could that sensor be going bad?

Also, there is a TSB on the instrument cluster for the strange lights etc...

Yes there is a sensor but alot of posts say it's a program error giving false indications... We'll see.

As far as the TSB, yes there is but I just haven't ever taken it to the dealer. Do they charge to do the reflash of the instrument cluster?

I agree. Normally that code is just a programming glitch. But if it continues to reappear regularly over time, then you'll want to replace the sensor.

They sure do, if you're out of warranty.

Well I've got 73 miles left on the 100k engine waranty but the other stuff is long gone... I was kinda shocked this morning with 73 miles left on the warranty the light came on but then it was a brake switch and temp sensor :-laf

I just decided last night to go ahead and order the TST and FASS system and I thought this was punishment for my decision :D
