Looking for input on my problem... .

Last week, I noticed a that around 45-55 MPH my CTD would lack power, like it was in OD and wouldn't come out until I WOT. Once I did it was fine. On Friday morning I start up and leave Vegas for CA at 6am, no problems, noticed the 45-55 lag a couple of times. Return to Vegas around 5am Saturday morning. Aprrox 11am Saturday morning I am getting ready to leave and truck starts fine, no smoke no nothing. As I accel down the street truck has NO power, it shifts through the gears like normal, but takes forever to just get to 25-30MPH, even with WOT. A couple of miles down the road everything is fine. The truck operates fine the rest of the day. Sunday morning I go to leave around 8am, and same thing as previous day. First run is sluggish, until I hit about two miles, then all is well. This morning I leave around 5am, and same as previous two days, it seems like once engine reaches operating temp over 140 it clears up. But it is fine if I shutdown, and let the truck sit for three hours and start it back up. Ambient temp doesn't seem to matter much, in the early am the past couple of days it has been 70-80 degrees out. I checked the codes when I got back and I got P1693 and P0216. I still noticed the 45-55 lag on the way to and from the airport.

Help?

Thanks,

Dane

You've been reading my mail.....

I've got the same problem and symptoms. 0216 is "Injection Pump Timing Failure". A week from today I'll be in Piers' shop for a new VP44.

I've been trouble shooting this for over 3 months and 5K. You could look at some of my posts for a summary. Also, there are quite a few similar recent threads on this very same 0216 code. Seems like all of the fixes have been new pumps. Looks like you're stock, so you shouldn't have any problem at the dealer, assuming you're not over 100K. My pump will be on my dime 'cause of my bombs.

Good luck... ... .

Thanks

That is kind of what I thought, I searched the forums, and everyone else I read had similar symptoms but most said they were smoking or sputtering, mine does neither. Anyway, I am at 68k miles. I am waiting for a call back from Desert Dodge right now.

You're welcome... .

Your description of symptoms is identical to mine, the truck never stumbles/bucks... . just no response/power. One other thing you might check for. Sometimes after starting the truck and being in park or neutral, if I rev it up it smokes like hell, and acts like a gasser flooding. All of these symptoms are random and as far as I can tell, unpredictable. But, the episodes are lasting longer and are more frequent.

P. S. I've had my codes cleared more times than I can count, but they still come back. I don't have to have an "episode" to bring the code back. A normal 5 mile drive will usually suffice. Whatever's wrong inside the pump must be so subtle that it trips the code without me even knowing.
