I use a Modis its an awesome scan tool.

I had a 02 CTD 4x4 auto come into the shop I worked at with the dead pedal issue. I was NOT impressed the Snap-On Modis. The key cycle worked better than the snapon, and it was almost $9,000. for the owner to spit out for this tool. Just a FYI.

Its an exellent scan tool,You just need to know where to look. The 1693 is a code to let you know there are problems in other modules,a 1693 dosn't always turn on the CEL. The modules communicate on the bus and also share data. For example the ABS module shares wheel speed info with the PCM. The modules on the BUS are the PCM,the ECM,the Injection Pump Module the ABS processor and the BCM. Using the Modis if you dont see a code in the in the ECM you need to back out of Engine and go to Transmission,if there are no codes there you need to look in the BCM. When we Bomb the heck out of these trucks we create logic issues when we install boost foolers,or govenor pressure foolers, they can trigger a 1693,Here's why, ECM sees the APPS at wide open throttle it sees RPM at 2800 the ECM cant figure out why is boost only at 15psi.

Update

After several weeks, teh P1693 code went away as mysteriously as it showed up. The service manual did state "the ECM or PCM cancels the code after 40 warm-up cycles" but it sure seemed to be a bit longer. Still looking for a scanner that can read these kinds of 'deep' codes.

Just to let you know what i found out, i had code 1688 which reads: Manufacturer Contrl Auxiliary Inputs Auxiliary Outputs... The scan tool i got was the 60. 00 one from autozone, now take in mind that the 1693 code has the same definition as the 1688. . I don't have the 0216 code either and a diesel mechanic pulled mine and came up with the same thing i did, no 0216 was found. So im going to put a new lift pump on and cross my fingers if she don't start then, well i know what else i have to replace.

Hope this helps
