Code P1191, 09 1 ton, diesel, Air Inlet Temperature Sensor

I installed a new sensor. The code throws immediately. You don't even have to start the engine. I have done 5 starts since installing the new sensor, no change.

Any suggestions?

So is it a P1911 or P1191? You listed both. Did you clear the code after installing the new sensor? You may have a harness or ground issue.

Yes, P1191, the 1911 is similar to something else I own. Some will know what I mean. :) The code was cleared and the plug connection was cleaned. The code comes on immediately without starting the engine. The sensor seems to be working as the Edge shows inlet temperature.

You apparently can't edit the title of a post. So, P1911 it remains when in reality it should be P1191.

We've been busy the last few days. My Wifes youngest brother passed away and he was buried today.

The truck is a Laramie with remote start. I noticed today that when using the remote start that it will start and die. I noticed something similar with the unplug the EGR trick. With the EGR unplugged, it would do the exact same thing. The EGR is now plugged in.

Does anyone really understand the electronic systems on these new trucks? How does 2 completely different things both have the same side effect?

Because of the funeral and it being our only vehicle, it has had several hundred miles put on it in the last few days. There has been no discernible difference in MPG or driveability.

If its the same rationality check as the other temperature sensors then the ecm is seeing the intake temp doesn't match (within a certain range) the other temp indications. The other indications are battery, cac (map), and ambient I believe. Mine was the cac indication and it took a lot more than 5 key cycles to proof it to the ecm.
Or it can be an intermittent problem due to wiring issues as stated above.

There have been quite a few key cycles since the check engine light came up. As stated before, the truck drives fine with no change in MPG. I will be forced to do something before the end of February, as the inspection sticker expires. No pass with a check engine light.

So it sounds like its failing the key on diagnostic test.
I can't find the diagnostics for this dtc but all the temperature sensors are just about the same:
Replace the sensor - done
Check 5v supply voltage
Check connections
Check for shorts to ground or broken wires in the wiring harness
Intermittent problem (applies to the above making contact intermittently)
Bad ecm

The dtc is lit when the sensor fails the key on diagnostic.
The dtc will clear after 4 successful key on cycle diagnostic runs. Since its not clearing then it supports the intermittent diagnosis and its time to start checking the wiring and connectors all the way to the ecm.

I don't know if I'd call it intermittent. It never goes away. The weather is improving some. I'll have to get into the wiring. I have cleaned the connector at the sensor.
