My wife got this code the other day with lots of white smoke. The smoke cleared up after a while. Any thoughts?
2014 2500 6.7 with 68rfe 5000 miles stock.

SCR NOx Catalyst efficiency below threshold , its no biggy clear it if it does not return it just glitch, how long did it smoke? a while is kinda broad.

It smoked for a half hour or so. Last time it did it I think it was in regen - tailpipe was very hot.

I would take the truck to the most capable shop and have them perform a complete system Check, it takes 20-40 minutes ,Most dealerships won't get paid for this unless the truck has symptom's when brought in, T&C charges $80.00 for this. We actually will snap shot the results Print or email them, tells how healthy the entire system is.

I managed to take a video of the regen smoke today. What do you think? I described the problem to the service manager who said that a little smoke during regen is normal...

No, NOT NORMAL. Your service manager is an idiot. I've never had ANY SMOKE during a regen from either truck that I've owned. You need to take your truck somewhere else. There is something drastically wrong.....maybe a leaking EGR cooler or something. Is the engine consuming any anti-freeze or oil? Is the smoke only present during a regen?

Smoke only present during regen. In defense of the service manager he has not seen this video yet.

I hope he hasn't seen the vid yet............pretty darn obvious that something is drastically wrong with your truck.

Is that clicking the urea doser??????? Mine clicks at idle but not nearly that fast.

Are you sure it's smoke and not steam? My truck will leave a vapor trail a heavy vapor trail when the temps outside are cold. Remember that your injecting DEF into the exhaust stream and the end result is water vapor a lot of water vapor.

I can hear the high pitched ticking sound in the video as well. My 2014 3500 Dually 6.7L has made the same sound on rare occasions and I wondered what it was as well. I agree with everyone else, you should take it to a Diesel expert to get a second opinion. It should not be visibly smoking. There's no snow on the ground to indicate it was cold outside, so I would not be lead to believe that it was condensation. Besides that, the smoke has a grey dark tint to it. Water vapor would be noticeably white smoke. Good luck and keep us all posted on what the diagnosis is and what it took to correct the problem. It will help to describe it to service writers if it happens to anyone else. Hope your Holidays are worry-free and safe! SBR

Thanks Sandbox, took it to the dealer today for an oil change but they didn't have a diesel tech on duty. I did send a link of the video to Chrysler customer service. We'll see what they say, if anything. I will keep you guys posted on what I find out. Merry Christmas to all.

Good news fellas! According to Chrysler customer service "...this smoke during the regeneration process appears normal." So, no worries about excessive smoke! Just to be on the safe side, I did print out my letter to Chrysler customer service, along with their response. I'm going to keep a copy or two of this letter in my glove box to show the highway patrol should I ever get puller over for this.
