The Cummins only requires good, clean fuel. Additives are not necessary. Sometimes we are bad about this syndrome; "if a little is good"... . I am not saying this relates, just sayin... ...

Nick

I ran 2 tankfulls of additive in my '07, when I had about 20,000 miles... it did NOT like it. One night I was stranded for over a half hour in a restaraunt parking lot, felt like she was running on 2 cylinders and couldn't hold 2nd gear before stalling. Since then I have stayed away from all of the cetane boosters and additives.

Thanks, Jim. I'll look into installing some additional filtration on my truck. In my situation, my insurance company is going to pay for the repairs (minus the deductible) required from the "fuel contamination", but honestly I don't think the fuel is "contaminated". In addition, it bothers me that the dealership will not do the work to find the actual cause of failure until I pay them for a chemical flush to clean the entire fuel system.

Something to consider, and this was just discussed in a post I started about the EGR, is where you purchase your fuel. Do you go to the same station and pump every time, or at least as often as possible? If necessary have your credit card company or the station pull receipts and proof you purchased fuel from a retailer on a regular basis. Once you can establish this, you can request a sample of said fuel and have that tested... especially if the dealer is saying you have contaminated fuel.

I would recommend using the same fuel station and pump so you have a consistant reliable source for diesel. Change your fuel filter often, this is very simple and does not require a mechanic to do it for you...

Something else to consider. I talked with my insurance agent about the claim. In the 20 years he has had his agency, he has never once had a claim for bad gas/diesel. Since my claim, he has had another one - both on Dodge 3/4 ton diesels. Interestingly, the other one is an 06 5. 9 at a different dealership. Something fishy is going on here.

An update on my situation: My truck is still at the dealership. The CRC fuel flush and EGR system cleaning was performed. Apparently, that did not take care of the issue (surprise, surprise) as the light came back on during a test drive performed by the technician after the cleaning/flush. Now, the dealer is proposing to replace all of the injectors as well as the turbo. What I don't understand is why they cannot test the injectors one-by-one to find the bad ones. Apparently, they are not qualified or lack the resources to do this and are again just guessing and hoping that replacing something will fix the issue. How can I be assured that they are going to solve the problem?

Matt, I have my bad injectors from my mess, they look like I found them in a pail of rusty water in a junk yard! That was w/ 6k on them and only 250 miles of highway driving on the bad fuel. I know when and where I got the bad fuel as I was almost empty when I re-filled and was in the shop with a 1/4 tank of crap left.

Sorry for the delay, dont get on much.
