On vacation and the P2459 popped up. No other codes. Did notice the post turbine exhaust temp about 900F and DPF temp at 900 without regeneration active. At 65 mph temps occasionally pushed 1000F but I backed off to 55 mph and it cooled to 900ish. All temps are from my Edge tuner. No. I'm not running a tune. Local repair says 3 week wait.

We have 800 miles to get home. Currently in Albuquerque and will be taking 40 to Hesperia. Is it safe to attempt?

Kind of depends on the cause. The MIL should go out if it can complete a regen, than go back on if it does too many regens again. Is the truck running OK? Miles on truck/DPF? The ECM measures the estimated soot load using the DPF pressure sensors. If the truck has lots of miles and DPF is full of ash it isn't going to clear up. If it really gets plugged you can unbolt the exhaust bolts on the inlet of the DPF and wedge a few washers in between to keep it leaking. Just be aware a leak near the floor can get pretty hot. I would make sure I had a couple of wrenches with me just in case.

105000 miles on 2012 truck and DPF. (NO DEF). Running smooth. The temps got my attention. I have a few wrenches and a socket set along. We're towing a 32ft 12k lb fifth wheel.

The P2459 is set when it has to continually regen trying to drop the soot load. So either the DPF is full (unlikely at 105k), the truck is building excessive soot (stuck injector, lack of boost, air leak etc.), or a sensor is reading out of range. The good news is the code does not cause a derate, but if DPF is really plugged and you don't determine why, the truck is going to eventually loose power and possibly die.

In 2020 we pulled from Moad UT to Phoenix AZ in my new to me 2012 Ram (no def) Turns out truck had a bad EGR valve and cracked DPF (learned after the fact). About 80miles out of Flagstaff got an alert on dash saying engine power was derating and see dealer. Made it to the dealership in Flagstaff. They were able to put the truck in forced regen and get us back on the road in about 2hrs. It doesn't seem like it's much actual work for the dealership to put the truck in forced regen to see if that clears the code. I use Car Scanner to monitor my truck now. I believe there are four temp sensors, i have mine set to see first and last. In regen I'm usually around 900 upstream and 1200ish downstream. Regular highway driving, non regen, they are about 100+/- difference in the 600-800 range. Just finished up a 4,500 roundtrip pulling our trailer and did notice a few days from Lake Tahoe CA to Phoeniz AZ 900 temps on what I felt were not so steep grades.
