I know this has been discussed, but still have a problem. I need a wiring diagram for an 06 if anybody has one. My shop programs only go to 05 and it is showing a two relay setup. I can only find a single (oh crap) Ford type relay on the passenger side inner fender that feeds power to the intake heaters. All the threads I've seen talk about two. I've checked powers and grounds from the battery to the intake, no dice. Definately an intermittent problem (relay contacts/computer/programming?) that has started in very cold temps. Local dealer said that flash programming the pcm would fix various elec. issues when it was new (1000 miles), so I went ahead and had it done... The truck seemed to start quicker before the flash was done, so I'm wondering if this code is a related programming issue. Either way, I'm tired of the light on my brand new truck! Thanks.

Are you having trouble finding the grid heater relays? Unless they've moved since 2005, they're located directly adjacent to the passenger side battery (in fact, they're bolted to the passenger side battery tray). Should be a piece of cake to test.

yea, my 06 has only one, same area as what you're talking about, and it looks like an old Ford starter relay or powerjoke glow plug relay.

Got my truck back from the dealership, tech said that he called Chrysler and Cummins directly and they both told him that they know that in cold climates this P2609 is setting intermittently but it is so rare that he should just reset the light and forget about it. In this area I know of three other guys that have 06's that have this code in memory, so I can't believe it is "rare". Has anybody taken in their truck and had this code FIXED? Also if it is "rare" I'd like to get as many TDR members as I can to get Chrysler/Cummins to look into this problem. Thanks.

My truck is doing it. I have my Edge Monitor set to clear the code at start up. It happened once then it quit, then a few days later (temps on the upper 40's low 50's) it started it again. Grid heater seems to be workng as lights dim and voltage drops.

It started 954 miles after my bumper to bumper was over. when you guys find the problem I will go to a dealer in the Rio Grande Valley who sais he would fix it under warranty no matter how many miles I have on the truck. He also said leave the the chip in, its no big deal.

My '06 was having the same issue. The dealer decided to throw some parts at it and eventually fixed it. First, they replaced the relay (with a new and improved version - according to them) and I still had the same results. I took it back and they replaced the intake heater grid. I got out the electrical testers and there was power going to the relay, but nothing coming out even though you could hear it click. So I took it back and they replaced the relay again. Seems to be okay now... .
