Hello everyone,
I have a 2005 Ram SLT with the 5.9 Cummins. A couple of weeks ago, it pulled a P2609 code, Air Intake System Performance. Up to this point, the only other code that came up was the Battery temp sensor one. Due to the fact I still had the original batteries in the truck, about a month ago I put 2 new DieHard Advanced Gold AGMs with 775CCA. There were not the top of the line Platinums, but they were AGM and were slightly more cold cranking amps than the originals, so I went for them. I began by reading all the posts I could find on P2609 problems. I noticed a slight melting on the rubber boot on one of the feed cables to the air intake heater. I removed all the connections off the relays and tested them by hooking jumpers to the two small terminals to the battery + and -. Both relays clicked when I did this. I then ohmed across the large terminals to make sure the relays were closing when power was supplied to them. The one that had the slightly burnt rubber cover was open when power was supplied even though it clicked. All the terminals on the relays were corroded and pretty dirty.I cleaned everything with electrical contact cleaner and a wire brush. I tested the fusible link harness to the relays, which checked out fine. The cables from the relays to the heater checked out fine also. I tested the heating unit by ohming from each terminal to the ground harness bolt on the drivers side fenderwell, and the unit showed 0 resistance, so it should be fine. The 2005 has the unit with the conductive gaskets instead of the ground cable as in earlier models. The dealer where I usually obtain parts did not have the relays,and they were on backorder with Dodge, so I ended up driving 40 miles to a dealer that had 2 in stock. After reassembling everything, I still have the hard code, and did not solve the problem yet. I know there was a flash at the deal
 
Thanks for the reply. Started it probably 4 or 5 times. My scan tool would not clear it as its always done in the past.
 
Brought it to the dealer today and had them hook it up. They checked the operation,which was fine,and were able to clear the code. Looks good for now !
