My neighbor owns a 96 12valve 5-speed 4X4 with 3:55 gears. He was wondering if we could play with the adjustments on his p7100 to give him some more power. Are there any general adjustments that we can make on the pump without changing the fuel plate or getting a GSK to give him more towing power? Thanks for any help in advance.

Has he tried simply sliding the stock plate forward and/or twisting the AFC screw towards the motor? If so, do some searching on here and take that stock plate to the bench grinder, go mild... maybe a shallow 10 profile.

BUT, NOT without gauges first!!!!

There is the high idle screw you can adjust and also two screws on the end of the pump that can be ajusted. You would have to research what they do and how far to turn them. But it will be hard to get them back to stock settings, unless you write down how many times you turned them.

The best thing is to buy a fuel plate that way you can easily go back to stock settings any time.

It will cost less than bringing the p7100 to a pump shop to get readjusted

back to stock.

As mentioned turning the afc star wheel will increase fueling at low rpms.

Ditto on the plate. Slide the stock one forward & plug off the wastegate for now. Big difference on the 215 pump. That'll give him 40 to 60 more hp & at least another 100 ft-lbs of torque. All for free :)

The 2 screws MM is referring to are behind a cover plate. You don't need to mess with them. Just changing to a new plate will do it. You only need to mess with them if the tip doesn't hit the plate right. It's a PIA & you have to know all the specifics. Another thing about adjusting them, it's tight in there. I tightened one down with the 10mm socket & popped off the socket pulling it out :{:{ It fell down into the bottom of the pump

id get an adjustable boost elbow(about 25bucks) and set it about 30-35lbs of boost. im not sure how much boost you can get out of stock plate slid forward but anything over 35 is not doing anything for you and your risk losing head gasket or turbo.

timing change...

Wow, thanks for all the great responses. My neighbor does have an EGT gauge so we can be safe about this. He only wants a little bit of extra power so we are going to be conservative, but maybe he will be wanting more after he gets a taste of this. He wants his truck to pull better than his 1 ton Chevy he had, and I know it will, but needs a bit of adjustment because he has taller gears in the Dodge.

Anyhow, I am very familiar with engines, rebuilding engines, etc, but I am only familiar with VP44 and Common Rail Cummins trucks. Where do you adjust the timing plate, how far do I go at first, and where is the AFC adjuster screw? Thanks again.

There are 26 fuel adjustments you can make to the p7100 pump. Personally I think everyone who owns our trucks and makes adjustments to them should somehow find a standalone pump and just play with it, there are so many things that can be learned about it.

adjustments...

Well we got it adjusted, we moved the stock plate forward almost to full forward, then we moved the afc housing forward as well. What a world of difference it made. We are going to probably plug off the wastegate soon to help keep egts low, but right now they aren't bad at all, plus only a little bit of smoke right at takeoff. Thanks for the info!

you won't be disappointed if you do the home ground plate. it is on this site. i did it. cost me nothing. love it. FREE HP RULZ!
