I just put mine in this weekend,it wasnt hard at all. I changed the housing to a 14cm,and put the pacbrake on,the whole job took me about 3. 5 hrs, taking my time. The wiring part of it is real eassy. I hooked mine into the ECM pin 20,so it activates after 3 seconds.
Easy found switch at Wal-Mart in sports dept. pull push boat light , out on in off mounted up side down next to knob on shifter made mount and covered with tape on body with black RTV on out side of tape looks ok . I leave it in on position all the time light goes on or off with switch on shifter. Hope this helps Ron in Louisville KY PS cost of crome plated switch 5 or 6$ Oo. Oo.
I installed my brake and I will 2nd that it is easy to do. Even the wiring is very basic.
The only difficulty that I had was the instructions tell you to tap into a wire under the steering column. When I did so, I only had an exhaust brake when the low beams were on or no head lights at all. The brake would not work when the high beams were on.
I called Pacbrake and the tech there knew of the problem and gave me the color coding for the correct wire to tap into. It seems that Dodge made some sort of changes in the late 2001 models and that Pacbrake had not updated their installation instructions to accomodate that change.
So, my suggestion is to install the brake and make sure that it works with high and low beams. If it does not, call Pacbrake and get the fix.
RD, I did it just the way you are talking about. I didn't bother with micro switch assy that BD sends with their brake. I got a two-speed switch with fancy bracket from Piers. I wired one side of the switch to a key-on hot(used cig lighter wire) and the other side of the switch goes to the vacuum valve. I didn't have to mess with the ecm and the brake goes when I tell it to. I really like it this way.
