Well, I was contemplating an exhaust brake for a couple years now, but after pulling the salmo and polson passes in southern bc with a fifth behind me, I think I need one :) I am looking at a pac brake, but I know bd power makes one. Any advice/experiences would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, Dean

I've had a 3" Pac on a 98. 5 and now a 4" remote BD on a 01. 5... both work well with no issues... Pac seamed a bit faster

and a bit more retard, but that was a turbo mount, BD is doing the job just fine

Pac's are/were a bit lower in $$ don't know about $ now, so if you don't need the remote try out the Pac. . BTW Piers has them both

I have the pac on my 94, and it works great. either way though, you will have to change to 60# exhaust valve springs. Picked up the pac for $799, I beleive the BD is a little more $.

Hope this helps

Mike

I have a pac brake for salle new in box. It was originaly purchased for a 24v and has the turbo adapter. You would need the springs, but maybe someone would trade you for the adapter. My cost on it was 630. 00. It never got installed and when the injector pump went out on that 24v it got traded for a 2005, so we have no truck to mount it on. Would like to get 630. 00 for it. let me know if you're interested.

Jacobs E-Brake

I don't know much about exhaust brakes but I had a Jacobs put on my 94 about a month ago in Anchorage, Alaska by Cummins. That thing is fantastic!

My truck is a 5 speed and this thing looks like it come from the factory on the dash and under the hood. Even has the cummins decal on it.

I can put on the cruise control and it keeps the speed at whatever number I want to go up or down hills. If come to a steep grade just downshift to 4th and it takes care of it with little braking on my part. What a wonderful feeling knowing you have stopping power. We all talk about getting to the top quickly but very little is said about getting down safely.

I couldn't hold a 30 ft. 5th wheel in the mountains without burning the brakes or running the tac higher than I was comfortable with. However, it is pricey but worth every penny. Mine cost $1960 installed. :-laf

I had a Pac on my 95. Worked great never had any problems. It is still something that I seriously miss since going to a bigger turbo. Haven't looked into a 4" inline yet. The Pac I had is also for sale if you are interested. PM or Email if interested.
