what I should have stated earlier is that the valve withing the solenoid has been contaminated via moisture entering the sintered brass filter.

There is a document available from PACBRAKE specifying the disassembly and cleaning procedures.

I have FAX'd Ed the page.

Thanks for the help guys!

LizzyHermit - I received the fax. I will clean it out whenever the rain stops here. Thanks again!!!

I had a Pac Brake put on in August 2000. It has worked fine until yesterday. I washed the engine on Sat. with simple green and sprayed, (light mist), it off with the hose. Parked the truck and then drove yesterday. Turned on e-brake going down a hill and then found that it was stuck on. Had to be towed home as didn't have tools and truck had no power and high egt when trying to accellerate. Checked electrical and everything was fine. Reversed vacuum hoses on solenoid and brake is off.

Has anyone had this problem and if so was it the solenoid? Any recommendations?
Thanks for the help!

you have clogged the mesh filter. hapend on mine twice before I figgered out what it was.

PACBRaKE has a cleaning diagram. I now just wrap a baggy around the fileter when I hosing off the Cummins.

No problems since. Send me a FAX number and I'll get the diagram to ya. I don't have it as an electronic file.

My PacBrake used to stick on in colder temps untill the engine got warm. Never got it towed, just reached in there and gave the linkage a push. Pac gave me a new cyl. under warranty. A year later it does not come on!! Contacted Pac. told them the cyl. was bad. Only 6 mon. warranty on replacement parts. Best they could do was sell me a new cyl. for just under $100. I bought the new cyl. but next time I am getting a BD!!!

Dang! I was just about to get the Pacbrake over the BD because they say its easier to install...

But sounds like its not very reliable. . Been seeing lots of posts about the pacbrake sticking... Just wondering how much harder is it to install the BD? Ive heard its a pain to get adjusted right.

I just installed my BD brake last weekend. I started on it at 12:30 Sunday afternoon and it was finished at 4 PM. And I was getting over a bad cold that had me down all that morning and the day before. I couldn't stand wasting the whole weekend so I put in the new brake. If I hadn't felt so crappy it may have gone faster. The install is very straight forward. The hardest part for me was getting the switch set properly because I had to tweek the switch mount a little to get the adjustment out far enough to where I wanted it. I've been using it all week and it works great. Don't forget to set the hold back pressure. I set mine at 25 psi at idle, it came set at 15 psi.
