I do use my e-brake all the time empty, i find i never use the brakes on the freeway, just flip the switch if i need to slow up a little. I also love it around town, when slowing for turns. Mostly, however, i use it for warm ups. the faster warm up time is worth having the break if nothing else imho.

Hi neighbor

I use mine all the time, both on the freeway and around town. With a six speed, it really does reduce the usage of the brakes. But, I also have to watch because I have almost been rearended a couple times using it to slow down as there are no brake lights on when slowing down. I wonder if a brake light switch could be wired in somehow. Hmmmm.....

Brake

Samram - - I use a momentary contact push button to activate my Jake Brake. I leave the switch on and push the button when i want e-brake. It would be easy to use a relay to activate the brake lights with this setup, and due to the problem you've will probably do it.

jac-brake

I leave it on all the time (except if i want the idling a little quieter) . I love the sound of it too when slowing down. The rear ending possibility is frightning to me also. . .

Is it safe to use this for warmup?

wont it cause a carbon buildup?

im looking at getting a BD

dont know much about em other than what ive read

I use mine all the time, warm ups, slowing down, making noise:D . My wife can hear me coming from down the road if I'm really getting on it, of course the straight pipe helps.

I use mine all the time, the pad dust is a lot less since I installed it. Around here I am in traffic all the time so I watch behind me a lot. When I see a car behind that is suspect I just tap my brakes to get them aware. I think all CTD's with manual should come factory fresh with a Jacobs.

Always Use Mine

I always use mine. Sounds great and get lots of looks. :D

Ram4Sam: I'm in the habbit of always touching my brakes when engaging to slow down, alerts drivers what your doing. I wouldn't want a relay as when maintaining speed down grades with exhaust brake, your stop light will be on the whole time.

Wiredawg

Wiredawg, that is the reason I haven't messed with a relay setup. Alot of our vacation miles w/5er are in the mountains, I wouldn't want the stop lights burning all the time the ebrake is on. I try and tap the brakes also but I usually forget. Plus, here in Kalifornia, the land of the tailgater, a tap to light up the stoplights is kind of waste of time.

Sam

May not do any good, but....

Ram4Sam:

Tapping brakes probably doesn't do any good here in DC either. I'm just a Texas kuntry boy who learned to drive in a rural area. :D

Ah reckon one these Nascar drafting Beamers is gonna get to bite my Browns welding rear bumper one day. lol :)

Have fun with the city folks,

Wiredawg

agades:

It works good for warmups (to anwer your question : Is it safe for warmups? idling is not the best thing for a diesel (Jakebrake or no) That's why some of us have been talking about fast idle equipment. Best to idle at 900 or above.

high idle

thanks monkfarm

ive heard some people say that the dodge upgrade for high idle doesnt work.

is there any other options?

idle device

look at TDR issue 35 (feb-apr 02) p. 129 for Harold Bowers ($41 includes shipping) I just ordered one, i don't know how it is. . .

I'm not familiar with barryg41's idle device but sounds real good. . . :D

1) Yes. Get oil pressure up, then engage.

2) Yes, some carbon build up on IAT sensor, but, less on injectors if you idle with brake. Not a problem if you use it once or twice a day as recommended (this prevents sticking valve due to carbon in exhaust).

3) You'll like it if you do (see signature).

4) Neither did I. Once installed, I was initially disappointed because it didn't "bark" my tires every time I turned it on. I'd read so many positives, that I expected more. The slow-down comes on "gently". But the more I use it, the more I like it. I rarely use my brakes until I'm going less than 30 mph, often less than 20 mph. Just don't need them any more. :D

Is it necessary for light loads? No. Has it increased the general driving fun-factor 100%? Yes. Winter warm ups? OK, I live in the South, but even down here its a big bonus.
