Pac Brake

Two questions in one, anyone ever buy a Pacific Exhaust brake off E-Bay and anyone ever install an exhaust brake and use a 12 volt on board air compressor instead of the belt driven setup? Thanks, bg

First off a Pacific brake eBay special is not a Pacbrake, don't know anything about Pacific brakes but they are not the same. I had a Pacbrake PRXB on my 06 with the Pacbrake 12v air compressor, worked great and I would recommend it to anyone.

Yep, I installed a PacBrake on a '03 truck (not mine) and as far as I know it is still working without any problems. It was fairly easy to install if you are handy with tools. The isntructions were good, no special tools were required, and it would be even easier with a helper.

I run a jacobs brake with an on board 12 volt vacuum/compressor pump, works great, Monte

the pac and bd use on board air. the bd has a better place to mount the compressor than the pac making it more reliable. the jacobs uses old technology and a belt driven vacuum pump. the stoping power is no where the bd or pac, the diaphragm has a high failure rate and when the pump seizes up it breaks the serpentine belt before you can get off of the road. if your Lucky the belt will not take out the fan and radiator, the pump is expensive. as ours failed we would replace with bd. monte keep this in mind, when yours fails you can reuse the shifter switch and the two wires to the ecm on the bd.

Yep, that's the same vacuum pump used on Fords with the 6. 9L diesel in the mid-80s.

Thanks for the replies, some of my concerns have been cleared up. I don't know if I will add a brake or not depending on whether we decide to do the Rocky Mountains again or not. One of my concerns was the addition of another device to the already crowded serpentine belt area. My truck is at about 69,000 so still some Cummins warranty left on enegine. I have extended warranty also so will have to determine if a Pacbrake would affect the warranty. Thanks, bg

Once you put an exhaust brake on you'll wish you did it the day you bought the truck. Its nice to have even driving around town unloaded.

the pac or bd does not affect warranty, no clutter with the bd. x2 on aedelheit. truck brake pads last two times longer. this is the only thing under the hood. i run four brands of e brakes, now only buy bd
