Pac-Brake ?

I just installed a Pac-Brake with the heavy duty exhaust springs and the plug in the flapper. It activates and deactivates properly. It appears to make the full travel of 90 degrees from closed to open. I have only driven it approx 5 miles in town and am wondering how much retarding effect this unit should have? When at idle as soon as I apply it I can definitely hear it. Maybe I was expecting too much but it does not seem to have much retarding effect. Will it improve when I hook onto my 5er and go on the highway? Thanks, John.

Near Idle it will hardly feel like there is anything at all, the higher your rpm the more retarding it will do. This is where driving and getting used to it will learn how to effectively use it. Downshifting from fifth to fourth, etc you will feel it slow you down more. Once you get used to it and you use it more often you will like it more and more, especially towing. 116,000 miles on my truck and just checked my brake pads the other day and they still look good, never changed.

John, you will be very happy with your installation of your Pac/Brake when in the mountains up there. The installation of the 60lb. springs will increase your brakeing HP a lot. It is well worth the change when pulling a fifth wheel in the mountains coming down grades. You will see the difference even with the help of your manual shifting.
