I am also trying to decide on a exhaust brake. I think I've narrowed it down to BD and PacBrake. I went to BD's site and looked at the propaganda sheet. It says that the PacBrake has a 2 yr. guarantee, but at packbrake.com it says 5 yr. warranty. The BD seems to have more braking power, although initial cost is more. If the quality is better, I'd spend the extra $$, but I'm not sure if one is better than the other. My other concern is I'd rather not change my valvesprings at this time, others have had good luck with stock springs and the BD brake. I would also like to drill & tap the elbow for future installation of Geno's combo gauge. I know size and location of the hole is in one of the TDR magazine, but which one? What is the best practical location, before or after the turbo. Does installing an E Brake determine where it should go?Still confused, any suggestions?? Sorry so long. By the way, Happy New Year!!!

Ron, I to want some gauges but have not purchased any yet. When I purchased my BD brake I got a new elbow already tapped for an egt and a back pressure gauge, maybe you should check to see what all you are getting with each brake to better compare.
Alaska dave, didn't mean to insult you or make you mad, just telling my friends unfortunate luck. I did not want to get stranded and i'm sure you don't want to either. As far as what actually happened, I don't know my friend was so mad he took it off and sold it so he would not get stuck again. I think this guy should know there are problems to be had with the accesories we add. I'll say it again I think BD is better and you get more for your money. Just my opinion

One thing no one has mentioned is what will high EGT's do to a brake? When towing I've seen 1200-1500 degs. Will these brakes stand up to this heat? I know my Pac Brake will. When I got my new truck I moved the PB to it and it still working as good as day one

RON'S RAM,

My PacBrake has a drilled and tapped hole in it for the EGT probe. I think that BD is this way too.

I have used my PacBrake for over 130K miles with no trouble at all. I have heard that they will coke up and stick if not used. Mine is used all the time regardless if I'm towing or not. I just did a brake job after putting 100K miles on the brakes. I can make the trip from Eureka to Redding pulling my 32' travel trailer without using the service brakes unless I want to stop somewhere. Mine still has the 35 lb valve springs. One of these days I'm gonna upgrade to the 60 lb springs. I don't see how you can go wrong with any of the direct mount brakes.
