PAC or JAKE brake for 05

Dont want to start a war, but any experience with JAKE exhaust brake on an 05 +. I usually install PAC but I have a customer that was looking at JAKE. He was told by the dealer that it's now "improved". Does Jake have a engine mounted pump? or what. I have had good luck with Pac on the last 10 or so 04 1/2 's I have done THanks

My understanding is that the JAKE uses an engine mounted vacuum pump that operates the brake. Some have reported pump failures in about a year with the JAKE system. You already know how the PAC works. Once funds are available, I am going with a PAC.

mberry, you are correct in regardst to the pump. If I have a pump failure on mine you guys are gonna be the first to hear about it, trust me! So far so good though.

The improved Jacobs brake has to do with how the break elbow attaches to the exhaust manifold. There were a (very) few reports of exhaust leaks where the brake attaches, so Jacobs changed the deisgn at the request of DC.

I think the other important issue might be that you'll be faced with a dealer only item when it comes to pump replacement or belt replacement... . I'm guessing your not going to be able to walk into your friendly auto parts store and purchase a belt... and I'm guessing some dealers..... those that don't listen to this sight won't have the longer belt on the shelf if you need it... ...

I would also like to add that the Jacobs has a vaccum pump that is running the entire time the engine is running whereas the Pac is an on demand compressor. It only runs when the E-Brake is needed.



These reasons along with a better price were enough for me to go with the PacBrake.



I should note that I had a Jacobs E-Brake on my 99 and it performed great.

Geno's has the belt, I bought my Jacobs Brake from Cummins West. I would bet the rest of the parts are available there.
