Hey guys, I just got back from Afghanistan a few days ago and my compressor for my PacBrake has taken a dump. I called PacBrake and spoke to Harold and we diagnosed the problem. He says I need a new compressor and since the compressor is only a one year warranty I will need to buy a new one. I asked if there was a better one available for the truck, as I have only actually had the brake installed since July of 07, and really don't think I stressed it out too much. I really like the brake and the way it works, I am just kind of unhappy about the performance of the compressor. Harold said if I don't use the quick air connect to put a plug in it, but since I do use it pretty frequently for quad tires and things of that nature.

If any of you know where to get a compressor for a better price than 180. 00, please let me know. I don't mind paying it, but it would be nice to know it was a fluke. I will double check all of the air connections once I get a new one, but I did this just before deploying last year for another unrelated problem. they seemed good at the time but you never know. Anyhow, thanks for the assistance. Scotty

Pac Brake Compressor

Hi Scotty, I too have the pacbrake system on my truck and the PB compressor is too small to run anything that uses air. I installed a Firestone Load Leveler # 9270 compressor, it air powers my PB and 4 gal. air tank for my dual air horns. It does the PB system proud.

I have 5 years on my Pac Brake compressor and twice it has quit on me. All I had to do is take the back side of the motor off and clean the comutater/brushes, good for another 2 years

I'm planning on installing one on my truck. How does the compressors hold up for just the exhaust brake? I wouldn't be using the Pacbrake air system for anything but the Pacbrake.

I replaced mine with a Viair compressor when the packbrake one went bad.

I've have had great luck w/ their compressors, and you can get a decent one for under 180.

First off, thanks for your service.

Second, the PB compressor is a Viar unit if you look at it closely. I remember reading that when I was installing it.

Mine has been working for a bit over a year without issues. I removed the coupler on the compressor quite a while back as it leaked very bad.

I would look into a higher quality Viar, one rated at 100% duty or a Air Zenith. You can get one for around the $180 mark or you can spend more and get a lot more capacity for those other chores you want it to do.

Sorry for the long wait for the response. Our home computer took a crap and I had to go and get a new computer. I am going to look over your suggestions and see what is the most sensible solution. I wouldn't mind getting rid of the coupler, but I do use it sometimes for the quads tires and stuff. Anyhow, thanks again for all of the advice.

Thanks again, for all you who said thanks. . I (and my guys) appreciate it. Scotty
