I just purchased a PacBrake from Fred Swanson at Desert Diesel Parts and a T-409 4" Exhaust from Mark Craig at DPPI. Does anybody have some installation tips and pictures for the Turbo mount PacBrake?
Put mine on 2 weeks ago, the instructions that come with the brake are exceptional & if you follow them you will not have any problems. Only problem I had was undoing the OEM clamps as the twits at the factory like to put them on so they are hard to get at. Perserverance, spray can of lube & short wrench required.
I am going to install it next weekend. I had my weekend booked. I am also going to take pictures of the installation, so I can post some pictures of the install.
I just put mine in and the directions said 2-1/2 hours so I figured I would do 1/2 one night after work and 1/2 the other and it was so quik and easy (EXCEPT FOR WERE THE FACTORY PUT THE TURBO TO ELBOW CLAMPS POINTED) it probably took longer to get those loose than it took to do most of the install.
And including mounting a shifter switch to activate pac-brake ( Did you also get shifter switch?) the test drive cleaning up garage when done It still only took 2 hours
P. S. dont try to do install without pulling passenger side wheel well liner this makes job very easy
I did get the shifter switch and the air tank. Did you route the shifter switch wiring under the shifter boot? Was it difficult getting to the ECM to find pin 39 and 42 without pulling off the driver side wheel well liner? Also did you mount the compressor on the firewall or the fender? Thanks for the tips.
just an FYI i read somewhere that if u get the brake for the 04. 5 you can have a true 4" exhaust with no drop down to 3. 5 than back to 4 when switching to a 4" exhaust. anyone know if this is true?
The brakes for the 04. 5's are in stock at most distributors...
We have them on the shelf...
Guys... remember for top efficency remember to go back in 200 miles or so and make sure the exhaust brake connections are tight... a loose clamp betweeen the brake and the turbo will result in loss of pressure...
I always like to put a little anti-seeze on the clamps so that the nut won't bind up as its being tightened. . and later you can put a couple more turns on it.....
I asked about the 04. 5 PacBrake, and it is true about the 4" exit. However, I had already ordered an exhaust from Mark Craig at DPPI for a 2003. Therefore, I just ordered the 03 Pacbrake to match up with the exhaust that I ordered.
