Got the HD exhaust valve springs installed, mounted the exhaust brake, hooked up all the hoses and hooked up the wiring. Flip the switch... . Nothing. Determined that the in-line fuse is blown. This is late Sat. and today (Thurs. ) is the first chance I had to get some new fuses and try to determine what the problem is.

I blew two more fuses before finally locating the problem. There is a diode on one of the connections on the throttle switch. The bare leads of this diode were twisted in such a way that both leads of the diode were touching ground providing a direct short to ground when you flip the main switch on.

Maybe my expectations were too high, but it doesn't seem to provide quite as much whoa as I thought it would. I can definitely feel when it kicks in but I guess maybe I was expecting it to smash me into the windshield. I don't really have a chance to test it on mountain roads with a 5er behind me because Michigan is pretty flat and we won't get our 5er for a couple weeks yet.

The template that they provide for locating the switch is worthless. If I had tried to use the template it would put the switch smack in the middle of a stiffening rib on the back side of the knee bolster. I ended up putting it on the right side of the steering wheel at the top of the knee bolster. There is just enought room for it if you bend the terminals on the back of the switch so that they are sticking out sideways.

Dave,

You will definitely feel it if you bring the revs up to 2800 rpm and flip the switch!:D The Pacrake works much better @ higher rpms... The higher the RPM's, the greater the retarding power.

Enjoy it. I definitely like mine and use it every day!:D

:( Interesting info, I'm gettin' ready to buy an exaust brake and am leaning toward the pacbrake. Got to send a few thousand bones to 'W' to buy more bombs to rid this planet of a few useless people. (I'm off the box now) Then I'll be seriously shopping. I hope Piers' sale holds out till then.

Just got one in and it's a little weak. HD springs is a must weak otherwise. They are going in this weekend. Use it above 2000 and it works well even with light springs.

Mounted the switch (a pull switch) on my stick next to my OD shift button. Works well, hit real quick when down shifting etc in a normal hand motion. Other place I considered was a dimmer switch on the floor. Step on - Step off. Just some thoughts.

dremelts, I thought the same thing when I first put mine in. The 24valves seem to have better braking than the 12valves. After about a year I can say that I am very glad I got one. I use it all the time and when I leave it off it is definitely noticeable. I agree with some sort of a shifter mount switch. Makes it easy to shut off when shifting or you want less braking. I use a modified Eaton/Fuller shift knob to control mine.
