Got the HD exhaust valve springs installed, mounted the exhaust brake, hooked up all the hoses and hooked up the wiring. Flip the switch... . Nothing.
Determined that the in-line fuse is blown. This is late Sat. and today (Thurs. ) is the first chance I had to get some new fuses and try to determine what the problem is.
I blew two more fuses before finally locating the problem.
There is a diode on one of the connections on the throttle switch. The bare leads of this diode were twisted in such a way that both leads of the diode were touching ground providing a direct short to ground when you flip the main switch on.
Maybe my expectations were too high, but it doesn't seem to provide quite as much whoa as I thought it would. I can definitely feel when it kicks in but I guess maybe I was expecting it to smash me into the windshield. I don't really have a chance to test it on mountain roads with a 5er behind me because Michigan is pretty flat and we won't get our 5er for a couple weeks yet.
The template that they provide for locating the switch is worthless. If I had tried to use the template it would put the switch smack in the middle of a stiffening rib on the back side of the knee bolster. I ended up putting it on the right side of the steering wheel at the top of the knee bolster. There is just enought room for it if you bend the terminals on the back of the switch so that they are sticking out sideways.
